Hello! My son has been in summer school this month. Unfortunately, it ends this Friday. His teacher has been one of the best teachers he has had. (FYI - Hes been in school since 3 years old, was in K last year and we decided he should repeat K this year.) I actually knew her in college then lost touch for more than 10 years til she ended up being my son's summer school teacher. Anyway, I want to get her and her assistant each a nice small gift...nothing extravagant and hopefully not a gift card. Would you mommas have any suggestions you can throw my way? Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

Corny, but I do stuff like a little ceramic pot with a packet of seeds or a small plant with a "Thanks for helping me grow" card.

"His teacher has been one of the best teachers he has had."

Telling her what you've told all of us would be a tremendous gift. She needs to hear it too. Have your son make her and the assistant a card, and then take some time, think about it, and write in hers why you think she's been one of his best teachers. If those words are wrapped in a mantle of gift card or visit to a spa, even better (there are lots of good suggestions given below & you'll get more).
But let her be bolstered by your confidence and gratitude for her hard work. Let her know she's reached your son.

Our pre-K teacher had to stop teaching for medical reasons but still tutors parttune. Our first-grade daughter is ahead of expected school milestones and does not need tutoring but; I pursue every second of continued contact with a woman that instilled such a fierce desire to learn. The huge smiles and amazing work at the end of each "session" are food and drink to both her former teacher and to me. Better, they are cultivating a lifetime friendship.

This year I got my son's teachers personalized note cards from Expressionary.com. They loved them. I think it's too late to order something for Friday but it's a good place for Teacher's gifts during the school year. Our teachers also seemed to really love gift cards from Target or one of the Book Stores.

I sell personalize jewelry. I have a lot of customers that purchase these for their teachers. They are open faced lockets, and you add what you like. We have initials, birthstones, apples, children, and all kinds of fun things. The main web-site is www.linxandmore.com I do offer discounts off the web-site. Good Luck

Maybe some flowers in your college colors?
Have your son make a card for her.

Truffles, caramels, &/or other delightful things dipped in chocolate... like strawberries, or turtles, etc. Maybe even with a nice Port.

Bath bombs, or a mani/pedi, or a massage (if you can get a discount through somewhere)

Splurgy type things, that for $30 you just wouldn't buy for yourself, or would buy for yourself every chance you got.

Lately I've been getting a box of the choc covered strawberries from Edible Arrangements...They are about $25 and have been a huge hit with my kids' teachers! You can order online and have delivered or pick up and deliver yourself.

I like movie tickets (you can get discounted ones at costco) and restaurant gift certificates as gifts for teachers/aides/bus drivers. Even more important, write the teacher and assistant notes about the impact that they have made in your son's life (and yours!).
Good for you for taking care of your son's educators!

As a teacher I know I love plants that are indoor and easy to take care of, and books and art supplies are always needed!

I know you said not a gift card, but as a teacher myself I loved getting gift cards the most. We as teachers dont make a lot of money and getting a coffee, target, trador joes etc. gift card were the best gifts. No apple gifts!

Forget the candy. Gift cards to Trader Joes or Whole Foods or nail salons or even to a teacher supplies store. A lot of teachers pay for their classroom stuff, themselves, out of pocket. I personally dislike Starbucks so I don't get excited about their gift cards, but a gift card to Peet's coffee or a nice restaurant totally does it for me!
