Hi everyone! I have a 14yo daughter who is interested in photography. She will be here 6 weeks this summer (Sachse). Does anyone know of any summer photography classes that she might enjoy?
Also, I have an 11yo daughter who is interesting in fencing (?!?) :) Anyone have any children fencing?

I saw photography and fencing in the City of Garland Recreation Guide and the City of Plano Rec Guide. They both have online guides thru the city websites. Try there.

Check out Plano Parks and Recreation. They have offered photography classes in the past, and I'm sure they have them pretty regularly.

www.quovad2000.org usually has a summer photography class (they service homeschoolers, but since it's a summer class??)

and the R.I.S.E. (Rockwall Indoor Sports Expo) offers fencing - do a websearch for more info on them

Hockaday usually offers a summer fencing class and ESD offers a digital photography class.

Not sure about fencing, but the City of Allen would probably offer photography for teens in the summer. Richardson or another city might be closer to you, but would probably offer the same thing.

My 13yo son wants to do fencing too and I found a few places on the U.S. Fencing Association's website. There is one in Plano (Lone Star Fencing) on Spring Creek Pkwy & they have a free beginners session almost every Sat. (http://www.lonestarfencing.com/). There is another club called Renaissance Fencing Club that offers classes through Plano Recreation (http://www.rfcplano.com/). They have beginner classes and include equipment, which is nice because it is expensive.

We haven't tried any of these yet -- we are in the information stage too.

T. P,
Check out this website and see what you think. http://www.campkiowa.com/u_enrichment.aspx?submenu=kiowa_...
It is pricy, and may not be what you are looking for. Have you tried to contact a local Photographer and let them know of your daughter's interest and see if they would allow her to "intern" for the summer to get a feel of what they do? You never know what they will say.

If you want something more local. You can go to www.ci.garland.tx.us. Find the parks and recreations link, then click on the PLAY guide. They have all kinds of classes that are offered. It is usually for a month or 6 weeks, and relatively cheap. There summer schedule comes out May 1st.
