Suggestions for Bottles for Feeding Twins

I've been checking out bottles to register for and i've heard Dr. Brown bottles are great but are a pain to clean. Since I'm having twins I'm trying to keep things convenient as possible. I've heard the Playtex bottles are great. Does anyone use them and use the airvent ones or drop ins? Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

I used Avent bottles when not able to feed for both my girls, including my second daugther, a premie who used them when she came home from the hospital and seemed to transition easily. They are easy to clean. I recommend silocon, not rubber nipples, as they don't break down as easily.

I used the Playtex ventaire with my son. I bought the "wide" ones since they were most like the breast. He took to them with no problem. Also, they are a breeze to clean. The whole bottle comes apart!

Congratulations! I have twin 3 year old girls. I cannot comment on your bottle questions since things have changed so much in 2 years but I do want to ditto Michelle's post and recommend joining a Mother of Multiples club. I am member of goMOMS (Greater Oakland Mothers of Multiples). www.gomoms.org The support and friendship is great!

T.,

I loved the plaxtex drop ins. I don't know if you plan to breastfeed but if you do the plaxtex system allows you to use a breastpump (i.e. Medela) and pump directly in to the drop in. The part you pump into is also the storage system. Then you simply pop one piece out and replace it with the nipple and walla the bottle is ready to go.

I especially loved only have to wash the nipples and connectors after each use (as the bottle doesn't get dirty after every use).

I hope this helps!

Congratulations!

My daughter, who nursed preemie twins, says every twin mom should breastfeed - many advantages for the babies and much easier for mom. You're pretty overwhelmed with twins no matter what. If you need advice, contact www.llli.org to find info and a local group. I know lots of twin moms who've nursed and none have ever regretted it. Hope you'll seriously consider it.

I have used the playtex drop ins with both of my children and I love them. I will also be using them with my third after I am finished nursing. The clean up is easy as you don't have to worry about making sure to rinse the bottle right away and you don't have to struggle with getting the bottle cleaner in and out.
The only down side is that you do have to pay for the liners. Currently I think it is like $8 for 100 of the 8 oz. liners (Playtex ones) I think you get the wal-mart brand for like $5 or $6. I have used both brands and haven't had any problems with either of them.

Good luck

T. ; yeah twins congrats, how wonderful, !! the thing with playtex is you have to constantly buy the refils, they are good bottles though , if money is not an issue, and they are not too expensive, but with twins it surely can add up, nothing wrong with good ole fashioned bottles, and a nice burping session afterward, they are easy to clean , and no replacements , except for maybe nipples in a few months , they make glass bottles again, and they are great cause you can litterally boil them to keep them clean, and they dont release gasses after a while like such plastics do, i have heard dr brown is good, but if its a waashing pain, i would re think it, bottles can be cheap, but if you register and put themon list you can always give it a try, have fun and consider yourself a priviledged mom, keep up your strenght, and stay fit, youll need it, D. s

There are more parts to clean with the Dr Brown bottles but they are worth it. Both of my daughters used them, my 5 week old is using them right now and never spits up and doesn't have a ton of gas. I have also heard great things about the playtex bottles so either way you can't go wrong.

The nurses at the hospital I gave birth at with my daughters (Spectrum) have advised against Dr. Brown's, saying the nipples are hard for small babies to latch on to. I have had great luck with the Born Free brand, they are BPA free and easy to use. Good luck!
