I was/ am on Pinterest and I just saw a funny but very gross idea that is designed to prevent ppl from stealing your lunch - at work I would assume. They are baggies with 'fake' mold on them so it looks like your sandwich or food is covered in mold. Anyway it just got me thinking. I was once in the working world and had to pack many a lunches to bring to work for the day and I dont think that I have ever had someone steal my food. So my question is this, do ppl actually do this? I mean seriously? Who the hell steals other ppls lunches? Anyway like I said the idea is funny (the baggies I mean) but if they were created as an actual deterant I think thats really sad

Sad but true! Some people really do this!

Greatest story ever on this topic:

I worked with a guy that had a thyroid (I think) condition that he took meds for daily. One day he had a sandwich in the work fridge and it disappeared. He sent an office wide email saying something to the effect of "to the person that took my sandwich. You need to come see me ASAP. My sandwich included some of my thyroid medication and you might need medical care ASAP if you have eaten it.". The jerk that ate the sandwich came running and was so worried! The guy told him he was fine that there really was no meds in the sandwich and then scolded the guy for taking it. The sandwich stealer was about 10 shades of red! It was brilliant. Don't think anyone in the office ever had any issues after that!!

I stole someones lunch by accident too. I was bringing in these microwavable dishes and storing them in the cupboards. I got so used to doing it that when my lunch came around one day I just followed routine heated it up and ate. A woman I worked with complained the next week that someone stole her lunch, and when she went on about it I realized it was me. She saw me eating and thought it looked good, so she got her own. I guess I swiped one of hers. I told her that it was me, that I shouldn't assume that I was the only person eating that same microwavable brand! I did replace hers though.

I used to work in a three story building that only had one refrigerator for all 100 employees. Most of us (in our unit anyway) wouldn't use the refrigerator b/c 1.) there wasn't much room & 2.) once you put something in there it would get shoved to the back and you would have to hunt for it. Well, one of my coworkers did use it & she used it daily. She would go out to lunch a lot and then bring back her leftovers and store them in the frig for the next days lunch. She would always write her name on the box. She started getting the feeling that someone was nibbling on her leftovers. They wouldn't eat the entire contents but she felt as though some of her food was missing. She started monitoring this and sure enough someone was eating some of her food and then trying to cover it up with the remaining food so she wouldn't notice. So one day she decides to be clever and she writes a note on her food container stating something along the lines of "I spit in this food". Well, the person wrote back "so did I". Of course, she threw her food away. She never did figure out who had been eating her food.

On a side note, I don't think that pinterest idea would work in my office b/c if we see mold the item goes in the trash can! I once had someone throw away my slice of pizza b/c she was cleaning out the frig and thought it was old. It wasn't! I was p.o.'d b/c I had made that pizza from scratch and I wasn't taking a lunch break that day b/c I had to leave early for a dr. appointment.

I had someone accidentially swipe my lean cuisine before too. There for a while we were all bringing them in. Now, if we do bring one in, we'll write our initials on there.

I also had someone take my yogurt before and I threw a fit (I was preggo and again had to leave early for a dr. appointment). The next day when I opened the frig there it was! Someone had overheard me and put it back. No one ever fessed up so I threw it away. I figured I didn't know how long it had sat around before that person could sneak it back into the frig.

There were a few people that stole lunches at the place I worked. One woman felt she had the right to do so because she always worked late. She would also steal feminine products which was a PAIN if you didn't know it had happened until you needed them.

One time though I accidentally stole someones lunch. My brother had borrowed a tupperware container (we worked in the same place) When he returned it he put lunch in it for me which had a shrimp dish in it. He called me and let me know it was in the fridge. I went found it, heated it up and it was the most amazing food! I was telling all my co workers my brother made this, I didn't know he could cook like this, it was SO GOOD...... 15 minutes later an irate email went out to our group because someone's lunch was stolen. Her grandmother had made a special (you got it) shrimp dish, family recipe and everything.......OMG I went to her straight away and fessed up. I felt so bad about it! She was able to laugh and tease me about it after a few days but initially was so mad because of other people stealing her lunch before.

Yes it happens all the time. I used to just bring in the bad straight from the deli with either my ham or turkey in it, and put it in the bottom drawer. Towards the end of the week I knew I had enough for 2 more sandwiches the next day there was barely enough for 1 sandwich. I could not believe someone would take my lunch meat. I threw the rest away, but geesh!!!!

I clean the fridge out at work every month. I send out an e-mail 2 days before hand and a reminder the day of and tell them that everything gets tossed so if you want it grab it out. I have thrown away some very nice tupperware.

There was a person where I worked that would eat people's lunches. In fact he even ate someone's hamburger that had a bite out of it. He was told many times about it but he continued to do so. I thought one time of taking a bag from the hospital that had the hazmat logo on it to use to put my lunch in it but he had gotten sick and passed on. I would have loved to have know whether he would have eaten the sandwich inside the bag.

The other S.

PS There are people who don't respect other people's property and enjoy their lunches for them.

Yeah, there are people who take your lunch at work. How horrible is that? Luckily I now have my own office micro and fridge.

I've heard of people doing that at my husband's job. It blows my mind that people would do that, but apparently, it happens. :/
Sad, huh?

Hahaha,
I kept snack pak puddings in the fridges of my apartment sites.
They kept going missing.
One of our maintenance men was eating them.
Honestly, I kinda' chewed him out - really, at least don't eat the last one!
He no longer eats my pudding.
We don't mention the "incident" at all. LOL

Yes.
Seriously.
Some people steal lunches.
I worked in a building that had a fridge in the employee lounge where people kept their lunches.
There were a few young guys (more or less hired fresh out of college) who felt it was fine to eat someone else s lunch if they could get away without being caught.
Some people resorted to putting a plastic cockroach or plastic worm in their food to scare people off.
Every office has scavengers - food, office supplies, furniture - you name it.
It's more of a jungle out there than you think.

Yep, people do steal lunches. Sometimes because they are poor and hungry, sometimes it's by mistake, and sometimes it's just for a practical joke. They do it here where I work. I've had someone drink my juice in the fridge and it turned out to be the custodian. Custodians here only make minimum wage. I felt sorry, but just couldn't keep up with the demand for juice and juice is expensive so I wound up just putting a single serving size in my lunch bag instead of a whole bottle in the fridge. Someone was always stealing my sister's sandwich and we never found out who, so she started taking a bite out of her sandwich before she put her lunch in the fridge. The sad part is that we're hypoglycemic, so we need our food or have problems.

oh yea it happens. I remember one office I worked in....we were all in the kitchen area of the office and waiting to heat up our lunches and we hear this yelling " SOMEONE TOOK A BITE OF MY SANDWICH " ....yep, sad to say one of the ladies had her sandwich 'sampled'. :)))

Someone took a bite and put it back in the wrapper.( wth ) I mean come on people, you may as well eat the whole darn thing! lol

In my office, there is one attorney who is notorious for eating other people's food! He has yet to get at mine, but just the other day my co-worker was looking for the peach she brought in and guess what? The attorney had already eaten it! So, yeah, there are some idiots who do eat other people's lunch!

You betcha! I used to bring my lunch to work all the time and some jerkface was constantly stealing what I brought! I barely had any money, hence bringing my lunch, and I would be hungry on the day my food would go missing. I would absolutely buy a baggie that made my food look moldy.

I brought left over pizza for my lunch yesterday. We decided to order in and I wasn't in the mood for the pizza yesterday. This morning I went to pack my lunch and remembered my pizza, so I didn't pack one.

I get in the office today and see my plate (that I brought the pizza on) sitting by the sink. Someone ate my Pizza. There are 2 of us in the office and then we have a bunch of truck drivers. One of them just helped himself. Nice.

At least he washed the plate.
