Straw Cup for 10 Month Old

At 10 months, I would try t get her something that is more free flowing. (Doesn't restrict the liquid) she is old enough to learn how to control the flow herself. Heck, you could even try her on a regular open cup if you don't mind cleaning up a few small messes until she gets the hang of it. (Just put a couple swallows of water in at a time, guide her drinking the first few times, then let her have at it herself. By the time my DD was a year old, she only used straw cups for the car or when we were out and about.)

If you aren't interested in going that route, I can't remember the brand, but we used strW cups from Walmart. I know they came in a 2-pack, the cups were contoured, the lid colors didn't match the cup colors, and the straws actually had a removable control valve. (Put it in, only half the amount of water could get through, and no spilling. Take it out, and the straw was open to full flow, but would dribble a bit if tipped over. They were pretty good. :)

I don't recall what I used with mine 24 years ago, but a google search of reusable straw cups turned up a ton of options.

as someone who has gone through this cup thing with over two dozen kids (since I'm a daycare provider) I can tell you that the best cup for learning how to drink from a cup is the First Years disposable cups. NOT straws. Straws require you to keep the cup down while you sip which is the opposite of what normal drinking from a cup is. What I would buy is the snack cups which are 4 oz and not really cups, they have lids with no spout or anything, and buy a package of cups. Then use the lids from the cups on the snack cups so there is very little liquid in the cup that is being offered. Put some water in that cup, put it on the tray of the high chair and let your child explore. Do this every meal, every time they sit to eat give them the cup first. After about a week they will be drinking from the cup. This cup is light weight, small number of ounces, easy to grip, and the liquid flows easily but won't leak bad either, and the lid also stays on very well.

It will also be a cup that you can use forever. Some of mine are a decade old!

I always use old Tupperware cups. They have lids that are free flowing. My kids have always done great in them, and them moved to needing no cup by 15-18 months.

She should be able to do the straw in a few months. It's all a learning curve thing.

We liked the Nuby brand straw cups. They come in different sizes and styles. My daughter was the same way. At 10 months she was no longer nursing, and refused to tip any cup or bottle. She was getting terrible gas pains from all the air she sucked in. We tried straw cups, and it saved us. When she got a little bigger (18 months or so) she started wanting a normal cup.

It's just part of learning. I agree, give her a cup with no lid and a small amt of water in it or a free flowing sippy cup. Practice makes perfect..and a small mess! She won't drown.

We loved the Munchkin insulated straw cups with the flip tops. They don't leak, but you have to be careful when pushing back the flip top as any juice or milk in the straw will fly skyward. :)
We got a huge pack of them from BJs wholesale, but i think they're available anywhere. They are also dishwasher safe- big plus!
