Do Any Truly Leak-proof Sippy Cups Exist?

Hey Moms,
Has anyone found a sippy cup that doesn't drip in the diaper bag? I have tried many and have yet to find one. I usually wind up putting it in a ziploc inside the diaper bag. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

HI everyone!
Thanks so much for all the responses. I bought a Gerber cup with a straw for my 2 1/2 year old and a Gerber transitions cup (with a cover like a bottle) for my 10 month old. So far, no leaks! THanks again!

I have found two that don't leak. The first is Evenflo HealthTex, insulated, (can find at Wal-Mart or Target) OR Tupperware has a Sippy cup, that has seals (or lids) for transportation. Good luck !!

I have tried LOTS of sippy cups. I finally found a brand that doesn't leak. The cups are Gerber (I think) and are leak-proof insulated sippy cups. The tops screw on rather than snapping on (preventing the top from flying off when my 1 1/2 year old throws it across the room), and I think the key to the leak-proof-ness comes with the plastic "valve" that fits underneath the lid into the sippy hole. The valve allows him to drink when he wants, but completely keeps the liquid from leaking out when it's upside down or in the diaper bag.

I hope this helps! If it helps you find them in the store, they come in a 2-pack and mine have underwater-type scenes on them--one lid is red and the other is green. (They have girl colors as well!!)

Here is the thing....
Nothing is leak proof unless it is air tight. These sippy cups will only allow fluid out when enough suction (vaccuum) is place inside that the valve allows air the come through thus allowing the liquid out the mouth piece.
If you want it to remain leak proof, you have to make sure there are no pressure changes.....
So, since I am sure you are not mountain climbing or sending her into a hyperbaric chamber...
I'm sure the changes are purely from temperature change.
So, as the fluid is getting warmer it is forming a vacuum and sucking in a little air. If you shift the bag and the fluid swishes, the cold fluid on the bottom mixes in lowering the temperature and causing a sudden positive pressure inside the sup and fluid seeps out into the bag.

Ok...I'm done being geeky...

The best advice...
If you have to put it in the diaper bag, it has to absolutely remain upright. My nephews wife got a luchbag cooler style bag with straps to hold the sippy cups up inside. It looks a bit like a camera bag, with insulated soft sides. If the sippy cups are absolutely upright, only air exchanges in and out with the pressure changes.
-or-
DO not use the sippy cup for transporting fluid in the bag. Pour the fluid in the sippy cup before giving it to the child. Use small juice bottle or water bottles, open them only when pouring them into the cup. Back when my daughter was a baby, gerber had large (12 oz?) juice bottles, being glass I could put them in the dishwasher and reuse them for the diaper bag fluids.

You know....These sippy cups need to come with travel lids to make them air tight...so then, you can change lids when you give it to her. Tupperware hasn't some up with a valve lid yet to put on their cups. Why not?
:(

Good luck,
I hope the geek squad helped!

Well good luck!! The nubby or nibby however you spell it if the plastic clear seal breaks or somehow is not tight they spill. I was using them for a while but found that when I took it apart to clean it once I put the plastic clear piece to the top to changed. I do not know the name but walmart and Kmart sell them. I got my daughter a two or three pack of sippy cups. Dora was in front of them and they had more of a round not too hard plastic tip and I have not found them to leak yet.I also got the pack of sippy cups again do not know the names but they have straws you insert. I haven't found them to leak unless your child tips them over and just waits for the milk to pour like my daughter does. Okay well good luck.

Hi J.,
I just started using sippy cups. I use avent and it doesnt leak.

Hi J. ~

We purchase the disposable packs from Wal-Mart. They come 4-6 in a pack with lids and cost less than 3 DOLLARS!! If we loose one at the doctors office or a friends - "OH-WELL" out went about 60 cents. They work for about 6 months or so and then we toss the worn covers and buy new. They come in bright colors and work GREAT!

Not sure if it is still availabe, but Juicy Juice had a free cup offer when you register with their site. Here is the link.

This cup is the best. Wish I could get more.

YES, I also felt the same way you did. Through trial and error I found a bottle by PLAYTEX, they carry them at Baby's R Us. They are 6 1/2" high. At 29 months I still use them occasionally, if I remember correctly they are sold as a
"Stage 3 or 4" cup. It has a twist top with a valve. They do not leak, they're great.
Best Wishes,
N.

I have the Nuby cups which you can get at Target and Walmart. They don't leak at all. I find that they are a great cup.
