I just moved to Newport News from Florida and I am looking for activities for my 11months old son. In Florida we attended play groups and several different story hours at churches. I am hoping someone can tell me where I can find a story hour group, and a play group. I am also looking for him to start swimming lessons. I would really appreciate any information. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hello R.,
First I would like to say welcome to the Hampton Roads area. Try calling your local library and see if they have story time. I know the one here in Portsmouth does so I'm sure they will also. For the swimming lessons I would check with the Coast Guard MWR or since you are not far fom Langley Aiforce Base they have swimming lessons there. I took my kids to the one at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital Base. It is also alot cheaper than the ones that the YMCA have. Good luck :-)

Hi Rachel,
There is a fabulous playgroup/moms group for the Hampton/Newport News area.

You should check it out. Everyone is so nice and its Drama Free. It has meetups for playdates, story hour, craft times, pool time, beach time, moms activities and family activities.

Welcome to Newport News! We moved here last summer and have found it a very friendly community. All of the local libraries in Newport News have storytimes. We enjoy the ones at the Main Street library. There are a lot of local parks, like Fort Fun and Deer Park in Newport News and Bluebird Gap Farm in Hampton, that are free and fun, especially when your little one gets a little bit older. My youngest is 10 months old and she loves the fish at the Virginia Living Museum. Enjoy!
