Stomach Virus or Something More Serious???

My daughter had a stomach virus that lasted over a week. The first couple of days she could not hold anything down and we took her to the pedi and he gave her some meds to stop the throwing up. She stopped for one day then started again. She was very lethargic(sp) and was really pitiful looking. We ended up taking her to the er and the said to only give her gatorade or pedialyte ( she was older than 10 months) Anyway, they gave up more medicine and she finally got over it. It was the longest week of my life because at such a young age they don't know how to make it to the toilet. If he is not better soon I would take him back to the doctor. Good luck!

I am not sure what the problem might be, but I just wanted to say is to make sure you give your baby plenty of liquid, when my baby was 14 months old she started throwing up on a Thursday night and every night after that, she was find in the day time but when i put her to bed thats when she would get sick, but on the following Monday morning I had called the doctor around 8:45am to see if i could give her anything from throwing up anymore she said she will have the doctor call back well around 9:30am that morning I went to the kitchen and when i got back to the living room she was lieing on the floor face down i picked her up and her lips were turning purple I panicked and start hitting her on her back ran out side screaming for help (mother n law live right next door) finally she starting breathing again, we call 911 took her to the hospital and they said she was dehydrated, I really didn't understand that cause she did drink and only threw up at night, but when they are so little it don't take much for them to get dehydrated. So PLEASE make sure u give him PLENTY of liquid even pop cycles ANYTHING will help. Sorry I didn't have any advice to what is wrong but i know how you feel about when he passed out. Good luck

This sounds similar to when my son had rota virus. It's apparently difficult to diagnose, and there is nothing they can do to treat it. The diarreah came & went, but he definitely couldn't keep a bottle down. As soon as he'd eat, it would be all over us!

Be sure to keep giving him the Pedialyte (it was the only thing we could keep in our son, who was 3-4 mos at the time- it lasted almost 7 weeks!). Also watch for signs of dehydration- sunken eyes, less wet diapers are the ones I remember.

My daughter did the same thing, so I switched to evaporated milk (not the sweetened condensed) and mixed it with half water, half milk. Worked like a charm! My mom was the one who suggested it to me; my pediatrician said, if it works, use it! Hope that helps! Good luck :)

Hi I work in an allery clinic and we see alot of babies that are allergic to milk. Maybe your baby is allergic to the formula, their bodies get immune to the milk and reget it by throwing up. Only a blood test called Immuno Cap for diary can let you know of your baby is allergic. Good luck.

it can days for little ones to get over the stomach virus. first be careful about dehydration. if he vomits bright green stuff, go to the er, that is bile and he most likey has an obstruction (been there and done that with my 2 month old son). I don't know much about allergies.. I would imagine he would refuse the food and continue a pretty consistant soupy poops and vomitting.... if you are worried bring him back to the Ped. listen to your intstincts. our ped office kept tellimg me that my son had colic. i knew it was more. i finally found a doc to do a swallow study for reflux and that was when we found the obstruction. i bet it is just a nasty bug. hang in there.

My son came down with rotavirus when he was 10 months old. He threw up all day and we were instructed by the doctor to give a syringe of pedialyte every five minutes for three hours! Anyway, throughout the next week, he would continue to throw up if I fed him more than 2 ounces at a time (he'd give it right back to me). So, I spent that week feeding him 2 ounce bottles, multiple times a day. I think their little tummies have a hard time holding food down, when they are trying to get over a stomach virus. So, my suggestion would be to feed him smaller amounts, until his stomach can hold down a full size bottle. Good luck.

I am not sure about the episodes he is having, but I know that when they are lactose intollerant and allergic to soy, that Rice milk is a good alternative. It is available at Kroger and HEB, and comes in Vanilla flavors. I hope that helps..I know how scary it can be to have an allergy in the family. Good luck.

It sounds like an allergic reaction to the formula. Does he have a fever with the vomiting? Ask your ped if there is another formula you can try or maybe switch to the premade formula b/c it's more easily digestable.
