Speech Therapy in Dallas

Hi Moms:

I know my daughter is only 2 but I want to take her to a speech therapy to help her with her language skills. She understands me clearly and she can say a few words, but I'm worried about the way she sounds when she talks. I know I should not compare her to other kids, but some of the one year olds talk better than she does. I want to take her to an affordable speech therapy that can ease my mind and tell me she is fine. A place I can bring her in the evenings around 5, or on Saturdays anytime, in the Dallas area.

What can I do next?

Lakeisha, you might want to try calling your local public school and speaking with their speech pathologist because many of them serve younger children. I think the youngest that they will serve is 3 years but please call to find out. If they'll serve her, there will probably be no charge since it is the school district that offers the program. Just try them and see.

Hi Lakeisha,
I have my 3 yr old son in speech therapy at the Callier Center. They have a campus at UTD in richardson, or a downtown location too. We initially tried the school district - which i would recommend first - but they would not qualify him. If you can get into ECI (Early Childhood Intervention) then I would do it. Otherwise, this is an INCREDIBLY qualified place that specializes in childhood speech problems, and we could not be happier with it. We are almost relieved that he didn't qualify through the school because now we have found the most amazing help!! Email me back if you want more info. Good Luck!

Hi Lakeisha-

I am a speech therapist and would love to speak with you off-list about my company, Speech TX. However, I would strongly recommend you contact the Infant Toddler Intervention Program of North Texas (itipnt.org) to find out about having your child evaluated- they are reasonable and look at all areas of development, in addition to communication. They could also let you know where your daughter is with respect to developmental milestones. ITIP serves children from 0-3.

Hope this helps!

My son had the same problem since he was a baby. He didn't make much noise and said very little. I called ECI - Early Childhood Intervention, and it was free. They can work with him at your home under your supervision until the age of 3, then they can pass him on the local school district's PPCD. There they will work with him well into elementary age. My son is now 7 and is doing great. He's still taking speech therapy but has made awesome progress. Your tax dollars are paying for it, mine as well use it! Good luck.

Lakeisha,
I have my son in speech therapy as well -- he is only saying a couple of words and almost 2 years old. I started first at Baylor Our children's House - but they are expensive; but, also, in my opinion the BEST!!!! Very focused; 45 minute sessions the sppech therapist really capture his attention. Do you have insurance which might cover this. We do not -- so we are paying out of pocket. Currently my son does speech 3 days a week. I use Baylor Our Children's House one day a week b/c I love them so. I use ECI (which would be another free source for you for up to six months all depending on your income) -- and they are ok. Not very agressive in my opinion, but right now if with the sliding paying scale, I have them for free for the first six months. And I use a private speech pathologist that I pay to come to the house once a week - they are KidsCare and they are in Dallas -- you have to pay them first to evaluate your child, but they are also good. Their phone number is ###-###-####. I am sure all these places will work around your schedule. Good luck,
K.
