Space Party. Any Ideas?

very cool - my son loves space too- i am hoping he will have a space party. i am not creative either, but i LOVE GOOGLE! :) google "space themed party", google "space themed birthday cake", just google it all. i have found all of my son's birthday cakes on google images. and you can usually find ones fairly easy to make. have fun! i hope he wants a space birthday party for his next one, but it's not till september so who knows lol...

Go to www.birthdaypartyideas.com. We did a star wars themed party and I got a bunch of ideas from this website. I also bought a lot of supplies and favors at the $1 store and it was reasonable...but a lot of work on your part so start now. I converted the garage to our "control center" this is where we played all games. I bought black plastic sheeting at the hardware store for $6.00 for a 25ft x 100ft roll and lined the garage (used 3 rolls). I taped white lights to the ceiling and put black lights in substitute for the regular bulbs....it turned out awesome. Games we played were pass the asteriod (crumpled up foil), just like pass the potato. We pinned the lightsaber on yoda....you can pin the planet in the solar system. We shot stormtroopers with a suction gun (you really need to supervise this one)...you can ray an alien. We flew saucers(mini frisbees from $1 store) through a hoola hoop to a poster with spacecraft and finally a pinata that was the death star (yours can be a planet). You can serve moon pies instead of cake.
The kids had a blast and at that age love to play games. Just make sure you have help the day of the party...they do get rowdy and out of hand. I had two helpers besides myself with 20 kids ages 5 & 6.

We got refrigerator and dryer boxes and painted them black inside then added glow in the dark stars. We had some tunnels like the space station has sections. We then put a black sheet over a long plastic table with those press on lights with black paper over it. We punched holes for stars. We ordered the cheapest space helmets we could find(not the $20 ones with mics of course).

*Box covered w/foil for kids to put over them for a picture. (not comfy to wear for entire party)
*Placemats of the planets (I'd purchase these at your local party store or online).
*Make planets w/paint, styrofoam balls & wire hangers
*Make round cake look like planet Saturn or something (can make yourself)
*Have the kids draw the solar system (have a picture for them to model)
*Make food w/"space" names like "Saturn Rice Crispy" treats cut in circles w/some icing on them, Have Mars bars, you get the idea

Let each kid make and then paint there own paper mache planet!

We had a space theme for my son's 4th bday last year. The party was at a play space, so the space theme was for the invitations, cake and decorations. There are some great plates, napkins, invites and thank-you cards on partycity.com with astronauts and the space shuttle. They only carry the tabletop items for licensed characters (Star Wars, Elmo, Thomas) in-store, so I had to order everything online. They only come in packs of 8, so if you're having a lot of people you might want to get the plates only for the kids or maybe just the cake plates. Evite has a rocket/space invite this year that they didn't have last year when I needed one. We also got space stickers and little planet paper pads for give-aways. You have some great ideas for activities! Have a blast!

games - Planet Hop - lay out hula hoops as planets (the new store Five Below has them for $2 a piece, if you get one per kid that could be your party favor too) - play like musical chairs. BUT instead of having a kid leave when the music stops they have to get into someone else's planet - eventually all the kids are trying to get a foot into one hula hoop and it is really fun

Pin the astronaut on the planet

Bozo Buckets - make it outer space by throwing "planets" into "black holes"

Craft - look on familyfun.com for some ideas, off the top of my head decorate rockets

definitely get a moonwalk, or "bounce house", you may be able to find one decorated as the moon.

just thought of this "pin the american flag on the moon" instead of tail on donkey

a paper mache saturn earth or mars will be easy to make with your own supplies for a pinata, or you could set up your own craft table where the kids could make it as part of the party.

the cake would be where i would have lots of fun!, it would be the whole table/black tablecloth covered in white sprinkles or confetti. set up with small round cakes and cupcakes decorated as the various planets....viola,,,solar system
