My 6 (almost 7-year old) is really interested in rockets, spaceships, planets, etc. I've got the bakery for the cake, but I need to know what would be a place where we could go, event, etc.?? Thanks a lot!!

What can I do next?

I really like the suggestions about the science museums and the planetarium, i think those are great, however, thinking like a young kid my first thought was laser tag...it's pretty spacey and fun. At least it makes ME think of laser guns and aliens. LOL I don't know if 6-7 is too young for that or not. However, if you are interested there are Laser Tag places (i think one off custer in plano?) and then i've heard that Amazing Jakes is a really cool place and I saw that they have it. I don't know the prices. But again, i really love the idea of the planetarium.

I don't know if you would consider a party at home or not, but when my son was about 4 or 5, we had a space party at home. We cleared most everything out of the garage and hung glow in the dark stars and planets. We gave out glow in the dark swords and stuff from the dollar store. I bought a few black light bulbs from the dollar store and used them in the garage, so it would not be totally black. We played several glow in the dark games, like pin the planet on the solar system, glow in the dark tag, etc. We have a large backyard and the boys enjoyed just playing in the back yard. We had a large refrigerator box that we made into a space ship. We have a trampoline, so they enjoyed jumping on the trampoline, especially with lots of cheap balloons. We also had made our own pinata of a space alien head, using paper mache and a balloon.

There are a couple of websites that have party ideas, I think one is amazingmoms.com. I also have found great stuff, like glow in the dark slime kits, from stevespanglerscience.com.

I know that most people don't want to go to the bother of hosting a party at home, but my sons and I have always enjoyed planning and preparing for the party all most as much as having the party. It is a lot of work and I don't know that I end up saving much money, since we do so many cool things, but they are truly memorable parties. Sometimes we have rented a bounce house, but the kids really enjoyed just playing in our back yard. They LOVE water balloons, silly string, party poppers, too. It seems to be a more personal party and the kids actually spend more time together than when you go to a big "party" place like Chuck E. Cheese, where there are so many kids.

Have you considered the Science Place at Fair Park? I had a birthday party there for my son and it was great! They have a separate "party" room for the kids - you provide your own food, drinks, etc. It was a great set up and lots of fun for the kids!

Go to the Planetarium in Fair Park! You can even check out The Science Museum that is right next to it. They are a lot of fun!

There's always Planet Pizza (in Plano at the southeast corner of Custer and Parker). Their web site is www.planetpizzaplano.com. You can view their slideshows and take a 360 degree tour of the place. We've been to several birthday parties there and the kids just love it. Good luck!

I'm new to the area, but if there's a planetarium somewhere, that would be the best. Also, some natural history museums have space exhibits and maybe do birthday parties and even sleepovers at the museums. Worst case, I'd call a local museum and see if they know of a good place to go for your theme. Sounds like fun! :)
