Skin Tags on Dogs

Last week my dog had his 4 year check up, vaccinations, etc. No skin tags were noted. Sunday as we were playing, my oldest son noted one on his chest.

Has your dog ever had a skin tag, what did the vet do? Yes, I've already called the vet and left a message. I'm trying to find out what others have experienced.

My dog is a Boxer/Pit Bull Mix. He is 4 years old. He is in excellent health. Weighs 60 lbs. No health issues.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I had a boxer mix when I was a vet tech and then went into medical sales. We were able to work on our own pets during lunch and while I was doing a dental on my Jill I found something that looked like as kind tag in her under arm. I sent it in for biopsy and it was a mast cell tumor...very common in the breed.

This wasn't the end of her, several years later she had a hemangiosacroma in her heart and spleen. It was going to burst very soon and I didn't want that at home so we euthanized her that day.

I would definitely get it checked out, they spread. So thankful my boyfriend is a vet.

Good luck!

Hmmm.. that must be a breed specific kind of thing. We have a GSD and have never had any such thing in over 10 years. Don't recall any from the GSD we had during my childhood, either.

Boxers and pits are both notorious for developing skin tags. Most of them are harmless, and do not need to be removed unless the dog is licking or chewing at them.

I have a boxer too- love them! Ours just had a mast cell tumor removed. All fine now but they are prone to them. So are pugs and our pug had them removed too. I would see vet and have them take a look. They can aspirate in the office and you will know. Our boxer has had many bumps that were nothing also! I say for peace of mind have the vet check it. And if it's a mast cell- they are generally low grade and once removed no more issues in boxers- so your little pup will be good either way!
