Skin Condition or Just Dry Skin?

Hi moms! My 21 month old daughter has patches of rough skin on her arms and legs. It's barely visible (sometimes slightly red), but you can definitely feel it when you touch the areas. It's on both upper arms (tricep area) and both legs (calves and outside of thighs). My husband is concerned that it's some kind of skin condition that might get worse. I think it's likely just dry skin, but does not seem to be improving with her regular lotion. Has anyone encountered this? Did you get it to go away? If so, what did you use?

I don't want to take her to the dr for dry skin, but don't want to ignore it (or continue to treat it as just dry skin) if it's something else. Any input would be great! Thanks Mommies!

What can I do next?

Hi L.,

Sounds like you may be dealing with Ecsema. I have a wonderful NATURAL solution that can REALLY help! There is a not a prescription, but a lotion that you can not find in a store. It has done wonders for ALL ages! There are many other alternatives to the Toxins used in most households in America. Most people are not aware of the dangers to children and adults. My son went through a few years of me dry skin patches all over his body. I tried all the over the counter lotions as well as prescriptions. I did some research over the internet and found this incredible product. With in 2 weeks all the patches were gone and to this day they have not returned! If you would like to know more about this miracle Lotion I found. Please give me a call. ###-###-####

i wouldn't use regular lotion, the majority of them have wax in them and make things worse. we use alveeno and cetaphil. : )

I've had dry skin all my life and my son was born with it. There are a number of possibilities. I would talk to a pediatrician or dermatologist before putting any kind of lotion on her. It just might irritate and sting the spots further. Just a note, I also use Amlactin which which was recommended by a dermatologist and that has been the best product I have found. However, I am an adult. I find the cheapest price at Costco in a larger bottle.

It is most likely keratosis pilaris. It is hereditary. You can't get it to completely go away but you can treat it with special lotions that have a kind of acid in them that helps clear up the bumpy part of the skin. The lotion is called Amlactin or Lac Hydrin. It is usually in the lotion section or diabetic section and is 11-12 bucks a bottle...it used to be a prescription lotion so it doesn't have any fancy packaging. Use that every day or every other day and it will clear up. I have the condition myself, as do many other members of my family.

Is this you L. (CIP)? :)My daughter has the same problem, she has eczema & it sounds like your daughter has the same thing. Her dermatologist recommended Cetaphil soap (I prefer the bar form) & the Cetaphil body cream that comes in the jar. It's expensive but lasts a long time & it's defenitely worth it, since I've been using it her skin has improved! Good Luck!
