Hi Moms,

My daughter is almost 4 and has a high fever (at least 101) for the past 4 days. I took her to Urgent Care and the doctor thought she might have a mild ear infection, but all she saw was that it was red, there was no fluid. My daughter is now complaining that her gums right behind her front teeth hurt.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

So What Happened?

Hi all,

Thanks for the advice. We ended up back at Urgent Care today because she has been complaining that it hurts to eat and she has blisters on her lips. This time we went to the pediatric urgent care and they told us she has gingivostomatitis. She is on the downswing and the fever is gone, but the sores on her lips and in her mouth make it difficult to eat. We were told that she probably contracted this virus from preschool.

Did the doctor recommend tylenol or ibuprofen or benedryl? Those are the things I use when my kids are sick and my doc usually confirms this with me.

Did they he might say my do a strep test? She might sya her mouth hurts because of a sore throat. Could also be a sinus thing. Also, why is there redness in her ears if not an infection? I might double check with the pediatrician because a fever means infection of some sort and if it isn't going away after several days, I would hav eanother doctor check..

Take her back and have them check for dental issues or cold sores.

Sounds like a sinus infection. My upper teeth will ache if my sinuses swell and start pressing on the roots of my teeth. Get a neti pot and rinse her nose with a mild saline solution. Some Tylenol might help with the pain and the fever.

Have you heard of Umka? You can buy it at Wholefoods..it wipes colds/flu's out..i give my son the liquid kind when he's ill but it you pour the powdered version into hot water like a tea it works best..try that..if you can get her to drink the drink the next day she'll be a lot better..maybe put honey in it..doesn't taste bad but maybe honey would help..

good luck

Oh my gosh!! This was our house on Weds.... Same thing to a tea!!! My daughter said her mouth hurt (pointing behind her teeth), so I thought she ate a hot piece of food and burnt the roof of her mouth, needless to say, later that I took her temp, it was 101.5, took her straight to her dr, ear infection and strep throat!!
Please take her to her pediatrician!! I hope she feels better soon!!

It sounds like a sinus infection. A lot of times your teeth can ache when you have sinus problems, especially the upper teeth.

Sinus infection? The lower sinuses can make your teeth hurt if they're congested. Usually the back and side teeth, but 4 year olds are not always good at locating pain that specifically. She wouldn't even necessarily sound congested. The sinuses could be blocked while the nasal passages are still clear. See if pressure on the outside of her face hurts. Press with your fingers around the orbital ridges (eye sockets), sides of her nose and along/under her cheekbones. If that hurts, almost certainly a sinus infection.
