B., I have a very good friend that does tutoring in Arlington. She specializes in teaching children with learning disabilities and has been teaching for many years. She has given me permission to give you her contact information. If you will email me I will be happy to give you her phone number so that you can talk with her. All the best. ~ N.

I am a stay at home mom who taught for 8 years. I would be happy to consider tutoring for awhile. I have a 1 year old though, so we'd have to look at timing carefully so my daughter wouldn't interfere. I'd be happy to give you some references. Teaching Reading was a specialty of mine, I was a special ed. teacher, working with a wide range of student abilities (very mild to very severe). Let me know if I can help.

Hi B.,
I'm in the same boat. My 2nd grader (MISD) isn't where I'd like her to be and her TPRI reflects a low score. I've enrolled her in College for Kids at TCC, you can choose 4 classes for 160.00 and they attend for 12 sessions. Plus, I've enrolled her in a Summer Reading Program wherein she'll focus on Phonics, Comprehension, Vocabulary, Study Skills and Reading Speed. This class is offered thru TCU and it's individual 2hour classes for 5 weeks. Their # is 800-979-9151. Hope this helps, I don't really have the patience either and I'm single mom always on the go. I know how you feel though; 3rd grade will be TAKS time and things will only get harder.
Let me know if you need anything further.

B., If your child is in any Arlington school, your school counselor should have the list of approved tutors they receive from the district counseling office as a resource for families, bless you in your search. KST, laughing all the way

I'm a homeschooling mom in Arlington. I also do some substitute teaching. While I was in college I tutored math and English. I'm not a teacher, but I have done a lot of tutoring and have taught my own child to read. I'd love to help out if I can.

I kow at our public school, tutoring is offered after school by teachers who teach there. That way it is a familar place with familar people. Also, some teachers are willing to tutor on the side, especially those who substitute regularly. Ask your child's regular teacher for ideas. They know your child's difficulty the best and might have several people who would fit your child's needs and temperment for learning. Good luck!
