Seeking Preschool Recs for Frankfurt, Mokena, Orland, Tinley Area

Hi!
My daughter currently attends preschool in Tinley Park. She is 3 and very intelligent, but doesn't seem to be learning much there. I may be over-reacting, but her teacher seems to have problems with my daughter and 2 other little girls - all of which have very strong, independent personalities. One of the girls was moved up to the 4 yr old class at her mom's urging...not sure how that is working out. The teacher complains about my daughter, who I am well aware can be difficult to work with at times (talks too much, asks lots of questions, doesn't follow rules well). Daughter has a good heart and is kind to other children (she seems to be well-liked). I worry about her falling behind and not fitting in...
Basically, I'm just not sure that the structured curriculem is really reaching my daughter. She has a great attention span when she is interested in something - so I know that really rules out ADD/HADD... She is also very good with practical skills, loves to "read", and has a SUPER imagination.
Could anyone offer some advice about what to do - new school? If so, do you know a good one?
All advice appreciated...

Hi C.,

I too had to change my daughter out of a daycare in Orland due to some conflicts with the center. My daughter was always getting hurt and they didn't always know how which didn't sit right with me. I now have her in a christian day care center in New Lenox. I don't know if you'd want to go that far out but we've been there for about 2 months and my daughter has responded beautifully. She is younger then your daughter so I can't say anything about their pre-school but from what I could see it's very organized and structured. If your interested in coming out this way I'd be happy to supply more info. The only other day care I know of in your area is Children's World on LaGrange and on Rt 30. I've heard good reviews on them and had I not found the place she's at now I would have interviewed them. My co-worker has her son at Children's Country Club Too in Frankfort Square and she LOVES them. She said there is also a Children's Country Club in Frankfort that she's heard good things about. She passed along the number to the one in Frankfort Square.....###-###-####.

Whatever you do....don't go to Mary Sears. That's where my daughter was originally. Though I have to say, maybe they are better with the older kids. They did teach my daughter at a very early age to drink from a regular cup. I just coudln't deal with the all the times my daughter came home hurt and lame excuses I got from them. They are also not very friendly. Good luck!

It seems like you need to find a new preschool. I have heard that the preschool at Parkview Church on wolf road in Orland Park is excellent. Can't hurt to check them out. Good luck.

Can you tell us more about the hours/days that you are looking for since there is quite a variety out there. I have one in morning preschool through the Orland Park Village and she LOVES it. The teachers are wonderful, the curriculum is very appropriate and presented in such an organized, fun, yet age-appropriate way that my daughter has learned so much in such a short time. My younger son is just starting at ParkView Christian, but, again, I am pleased with everyone I have met there and the curriculum set. Email me if you'd like more info about either.

I was floored when I read your request! I went through the same exact issues with my 5-year-old son. He is above, I guess what people might call, average intelligence for other children his age. I had tons of issues with his day care center as well because he would be placed in classes with other kids his age earlier in his life because they didn't know at the time how smart he was. He would get into trouble because he would become rambunctious and impatient therefore causing disturbances with other kids and the teachers trying to teach them. They were teaching things that he already knew or grasped the idea of three times faster than the rest of his class. So, I pushed and pushed to get him moved up in his day care to a higher class with the support of his teacher (he was three at this time). At that same time I came across an early intervention teacher who had a class for special education kids at our local elementary school. (My son was diagnosed as having global developmental delay as a baby and had 5 therapists visit him every week for 2 1/2 years but he is perfect now!) So, we set up meetings and he was approved to enter the class. He is still in her class 2 years later and she now teaches a class to about 8 students, I believe, with two teacher's aids. She teaches a "blended class" of amazing stature. He has special programs set up just for him because of his intelligence and always comes home happy! He gets amazing reviews from his teachers and because they have such a small teacher to student ratio he able to get that special attention he needs and catered to every day. I would never recommend to anyone that they go anywhere else. She has a four year degree in early childhood education and is a god-send. I absolutely adore her and her staff. She has an open-door policy everyday in her class so anytime you feel like staying and watching you can without notice. We have parties on all the holidays at school, go on field trips together and the communication is great, too.
It's a class that you have to be approved for to get in to, but it's worth it. And if your daughter has above average intelligence - she'll make it, no doubt. It's at a regular elementary school out here in Frankfort right across the street from Lincoln-Way East. The Frankfort schools just won awards (they were in the paper) for their curriculum, academics, and teachers. I definitely think you should try!!
Now that I've told you most of my life story!! (sorry - I didn't mean to blab like this, but I got excited!!) I hope that this will help you with your search for your daughter. If you're interested - please email me and I can give you the rest of the information. Best Wishes and Good Luck!!!
K.
