Seeking Pediatrician Recommendation in SW Austin - Legend Oaks Area

Having my first child in 16 years - time for a new pediatrician. I am looking for a female doctor who takes Blue Cross Blue Shield, preferably someone in Southwest Austin. I have heard great things about the doctors at ARC - Northwest, but surely there are great options closer to my house.

So What Happened?

I met with the pediatricians at Southwest Pediatrics (Patil and Jolet), Dr. Cardwell at Schoolhouse Pediatrics, and Dr. Wheelock at Barton Creek Pediatrics. I liked all the pediatricians I met with, so my decision boiled down to some nit-picky details (Sat and Sun urgent care hours, proximity to home, demeanor and rapport with me), and I selected Dr. Wheelock. I'm looking forward to having a great pediatric experience with her. Thanks for all your help and input.

Diane Garza or Sarah Woods at Austin Diagnostic Clinic on James Casey Blvd, by South Austin Hospital (known as ADC Pediatric South office). Diane Garza was recommended to us when we moved here 9 years ago, and she is great. I worked with Sarah Woods when she was in training and she is also wonderful - both are great with kids, have good fund of knowledge and clinical judgment. But, the doctors recommended below are also excellent. I am also a pediatric physican in town, a pediatric radiologist. I hope that helps.

I have been very pleased with Southwest Pediatrics--Dr. Kelly Jolet is awesome! She is down-to-earth, reassuring, professional, and fun. She answers every question with honesty and gives great advice. Most of all, I feel like she really loves babies and kids. Highly recommended!

I live in Sendera (Slaughter & Mopac) and we go to Schoolhouse Pediatrics on Bee Caves Road - Dr. Jennifer Cardwell is our primary and is awesome but we have also seen her two partners, Dr. Reidy and Dr. Hutchens and they are also wonderful - plus they have Saturday hours for sick kids and can usualy get my daughter in right away if she is sick. The drive isn't bad either - 15-20 minutes. Check out their website at http://www.schoolhousepediatrics.com/. I HIGHLY recommend them! Good Luck!

Dr. Rebecca Mouser at ARC on Brodie is very good. I have been very pleased with her and all the doctors at this location. I have 4 children, 3 with asthma, so I have too much experience going to the pediatrician. I have recommended Dr. Mouser to others, including family, already.

We took all our kids to Capital Pediatrics (by Seton) because that is where I went when I was a child. Now that they are older (17, 13, 10), we have moved everyone over to Austin Regional Clinic on Brodie Lane. I especially like the PA whose name I believe is Crocker.

If you look at Capital Pediatrics, I highly recommend Dr. Mani and Dr. Treybig. They also have doctor on staff that wrote Baby 411. Good luck with your new baby!

Dr. Diane Garza, ADC on James Casey near SA Hospital. My daughter has just graduated out of the need of a pediatrician (age 17). Also, Dr. Scott Brobery, ARC though he's a male, both are wonderful doctors. He is a fine Christian man.

We use Dr. Valerie Wheelock. She speaks to my daughters and asks them questions, she does not just talk to me. She takes BC/BS and is fairly new so easier to get into see. She took over Dr. Ann Weaver's practice. Her office is SW on Bee Caves Rd. She also does free prenatal meetings (so it says on her card)

I really like Dr. Amy Alcorn at the ARC on Brodie between William Canon & Slaughter. She only works part time (she's a mom) so we don't always get to see her when my son gets sick, but I've liked most of the other docs, too. Just make sure, if you go there, to schedule your well checks FAR in advance, to get Alcorn. If you try a few weeks out, she will probably already be booked.

Congratulations!

I don't know where Legend Oaks is, but I recommend Westlake Pediatrics. Dr. Edith Hamilton is fantastic! I especially like them because they have walk in hours everyday until 11:30 a.m.

When I moved into town six years ago, one of my sons got sick before I had a chance to get a doctor for them. Every office I called wouldn't see us that day or the next because we were new patients. I was calling everyone in the phone book. When I finally called Dr. Hamilton's office, they said to come right in.

Dr. Hamilton's office has a low turnover rate, so my children and I know the folks we see whenever we come in. Dr. Hamilton also spends as much time as we need with her making sure that she is thorough (and my kiddos come up with some interesting symptoms) and answers all my questions. She generally asks my sons about what is going on rather than me. In spite of the fact that my children exaggerate whatever is going on with them, she has never once lost her patience or rolled her eyes at them; she just gently probes until she gets to the root of the problem.

Her office is located on the northeast corner of Loop 360 and Bee Caves Rd. In the same center as Frost Bank and Westlake Hospital. (I also recommend that emergency room. I've been in and out of there in 45 minutes!)

Good luck, and get plenty of rest (if you can).

Congratulations!!!

Dr Amy Alcorn is wonderful - both my girls go to her and she is awesome - She is at ARC on Brodie. The number is ###-###-####. She only works mornings but is worth it. Another good doctor in that building is Dr. Rebecca Mouser (spelling). If you don't mind a male - Dr. Esparza is also really good.

Good luck

I go to Capital Pediatrics off of 35th street by Seton.. It isn't too far, I just try and avoid rush hour time for appts. They are also open on the weekends now, even Sunday.. I see Dr. Treybig, I love her.. It is a fairly large practice, everyone seems to avoid Dr. Mani and Dr. Ma. The number is ###-###-####... I live in the Legends Oaks area as well, I know several people down here who go there. Good Luck!

i'm another alcorn fan. we just love her. i haven't seen other dr.s. well i take that back. we saw dr. panell a few times. she was very sweet, but not as thorough as alcorn. i'm also a mom who's chosen an alternative vaccination schedule and she has been very respectful of that. she did say she's probably the more liberal in that respect. congrats and good luck!
blessings,
A.
