Hi K.! I have a 1 1/2 year old and my Dr. was WONDERFUL! I don't know how you feel about having a midwife. Her name is Dymphna Ryan and she works at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. Such a sweet, caring, gentle woman. I never felt rushed and she fully explained every crazy question or concern I had. I HIGHLY recommened her!

Hi K.,
I just joined Mamasource and it looks to be a great networking tool. My boyfriend and I have a house in Rio Rancho and are the proud parents of a 3 month old daughter. We went to the midwifes at the Women's Specialists of New Mexico ###-###-####, or check out www.wsnm.org). Our midwife was Michelle Pino and we had a wonderful pregnancy and birth experience. Michelle and all of the staff were always very open and supportive with all of our concerns and questions. They take many kinds of insurance so you are less limited that way. I was a midwestern girl who transplanted here too, and I absolutely love it. I hope you enjoy New Mexico too!

Hi K.,
Welcome to NM. The lovelace women's hospital on Montgomery is great...I just had my daughter there 5 months ago. The only thing is if you are low risk you will probably go through a midwife, higher risk at dr. I loved my midwife (Tammy Bensch)but had complications later on so I got a csection by dr. patrick mcginnis. I guess it depends on your insurance. Presbyterian is also a great hospital and Dr. Annalisa Villareal is supposedly great too! Good Luck and contact me should you need help in your transition to NM. I have been here for 4 years ( ar transplant from Chicago). It was hard to move because it is so different from the midwest. I respect the fact that you are starting to network earlier on. I am having difficulty meeting other moms because I never did so.
Bye for now!

Hello K.!
First, I want to welcome you to New Mexico! I have lived here all my life. I am originally from Roswell, NM and moved to Albuquerque for college. I am a proud mommy of a 16 month little girl. During my pregnancy, I saw a Midwife through Lovelace Women's Hospital. I really enjoyed seeing her. She is awesome! She is very knowlegable and kind. Her name is Yvonne Castillo. If you would like to try her out, the number to the Women's Hospital is ###-###-####.

Another GREAT Dr. is Dr. Martha McGrew at UNM's Family Practice. I absolutely LOVE her! She is a famliy practioner, so not only was she my Dr. through my pregnacy, but she is also my baby's pediatrician now. She makes you feel confident and relaxed about everything. The only drawbacks are that she is often booked with patients (not sure if she is taking any new patients), and the wait is pretty long every time to see her.
Hope you find a good Dr., and welcome to NM!

K.,
I have lived in Rio Rancho for 15 years, and had all three of my children at Lovelace hospital (in Alb). I saw a nurse midwife at the Lovelace Rio Rancho office with all three of my kiddos. They take alot more time with you than the doctors do and are very supportive. God bless you in your move and your pregnancy. When you get into town and need to get to know people, let us at Mamasource know. Great things are coming out of this community.

Congratulations K.! Dr. Louisa Chavez is a wonderful OB GYN. She delivered two of my sons and would have delivered the third if it was possible. (We had to switch for insurance purposes). In any case, she was wonderful. She offered advice, and any time I had questions or concerns all I had to do was call her. Good Luck!
