Hello! I am looking for suggestions for a bridal shower for my sister in law. I would like to know any of your ideas on theme, food, invitations, and games. Most specifically I am stuck with finding an appropriate theme and I am also searching for some fun and different games as I'm getting tired of the same old ones..Thank you in advance!

What can I do next?

How about a flower Party. You could stay in the bridal theme colors and everyone learns how to make a gorgeous bouquet. There is Flower Duet - right here in Redondo Beach who does this.

At my shower, recipe cards were inclosed with the invites so i had a nice stack of new meals when i was married.

I also went to a "around the clock" shower. A time was given for each person to by a gift for. ex, buy something to be used at midnight, lunchtime, 4 AM, breakfast, 3 PM. It was fun and she got a great mix of gifts.

***Update: another fun thing to do. Ask someone to write down all of the comments the bride to be says as she opens her gifts. After she is finished opening, read it back with the title of "What Sally Will Say on Her Wedding Night" This is a riot.

Try: www.orientaltrading.com for ideas and the whole gamut. Just type in "bridal shower" as a search word.

Or, go to www.marthstewart.com and do a search on bridal showers. They have tons of ideas too.

Good luck,
Susan

R.,

Depending on how many people you are going to have at the party will depend on what kind of things you want to do. My sister's bridal shower was small, about 12 people and I had it at a Tea Room. All I had to do was come up with some ideas for party games, which were pretty simple since we enjoyed the tea and lunch and of course the pastries...plus, PRESENTS! So, there wasn't a WHOLE lot of planning I had to do.

**I did a book where I took polaroids of ALL the people at the shower and each one wrote something special (advice for the future) in the book below their picture. My sister loved it and keeps it out.

Hi R....I'm not a frou-frou girl or big on shower games, so I don't know if these suggestions are appropriate. A few years ago I threw a bridal shower for a friend. There really wasn't much of a theme, except maybe flowers. I had it outside on my backyard patio and all the tables were covered with white butcher paper and I placed lots of color markers, crayons, pencils, rubber stamps, and stamp pads on the tables and encouraged everyone to experiment and be creative. (The bride took some parts home for her scrapbook.) The centerpieces were small clay pots planted with tiny white daisies (the 6-pack flowers at the nursery) and they were the favors that the women took home at the end of the party. I served a buffet brunch with several quiche and a fresh green salad with fruit and nuts mixed in. Beverages were lemonade, white wine, and champagne. The only game we played was a quiz I made up to see how well the bride and guests knew the bride and groom. (It was all very fun and innocent stuff, nothing too personal or too embarrassing.) Everyone took the quiz (without the bride seeing it) then I asked the bride the questions in front of everyone else. (Of course this led to lots of side stories and laughter as the bride explained and guests pitched in too). Everyone seemed to have a good time and it was very relaxed and easy-going. I'm sure that whatever you decide to do will be terrific and the bride will appreciate your efforts. Good luck and have fun planning!

Hi R., I hate shower games, but I thought this one was OK. The hostess had a list of questions about the bride, like date of wedding, where she and her man met, how long have they been ingaged, things like that. Whoever shouts out the answers gets a ticket and then the winner is drawn. It was a nice way to brake the ice with the guests, and everyone learned a little more about the bride. A great bidal shower gift is a Scentsy wickless candle warmer with the scent Lucky In Love or French Kiss they are so cute! You can check them out at www.scentsy.com/danacarey
Good luck!

The best shower I ever gave was a "basket shower" or "container shower". All of the guests had to bring their gift in a container. I was so amazed at the creativity. There was a honeymoon basket wrapped in a straw handled basket with towels, suntan lotion, etc. There was a huge pasta bowl with spaghetti forks, pasta, sauce, wine, etc. As for food, the best and easiest is quiche. You can mix the egg mixture the night before. I use pre-made pie crusts (I the refrigerated section), preshredded cheese, pre sliced mushrooms, etc. For a really easy salad-get the ceasar chicken in the deli area at Trader Joe's. Toss it with a bag of arugala, a small jar of julienne sun dried tomatoes, a jar of kalamata olives, a half a jar of basil pesto. You can also add pine nuts. Have fun!

R.,
My thought is to find a theme that really part of your sister in law's personality. I am not much of a fussy kind of girl but we love hanging out with our friends. One of my showers was theme "Stock the Bar". Gift where glasses, bar carts and things along that line. We even got tikki lamps and we went out to the bar rather than the striptease stuff. The second bridal shower we had was a couples party and the guys watched football and the ladies did scrapbooking. We did gifts and ate football food. It was so much fun.

I'm a Mary Kay Consultant and was invited to do facials for the nice part of a naught and nice bridal shower. The guest purchase product from the brides wish list and I believe they did this with the naught part of the night as well. Now both of us already had houses all set up and did not really need new house funishing.

I say again find out what your sister in law loves to do and make it all about her. Good luck and have a wonderful time.

Depending on how liberal your crowd is... I recently went to a bridal shower and played the following hysterical game. Put a cucumber in a pair of hose (pushing the cucumber all the way to the toe area of the hose). Tie the hose around the waist of the player so that the cucumber is hanging between their legs. They then have to try to get it into a container (pick one that stays has some weight to it) by moving their body around - basically moving their hips to get it swinging. I nearly fell off my chair laughing when my friends grandmother tried it.

Some theme ideas to get you started:

Kitchen theme:
All items for kitchen, Place recipe cards in each invitation, you may invite a tupperware consultant or Pampered Chef... all guests are part of the sales for party, Play guess the white stuff game... flour, baking soda, sugar, salt, cream of tarter (you get the idea). place them in plastic sandwich bags and pass around in a basket.. have your guests guess!!

Make-up party- Spa day in the house!

Chick Flick Party... great for an innocent bachelorette party

If they like restaurants and are having a second wedding... you may ask your guests to buy restaurant cards for $25

Sunday Brunches are great for Bridal Showers. Try your local Hotels...
They often have a separate room in the restaurant for your event.

Cards of great advice...
