My 7-year-old just got a pet lizard. We'd like to get her a good book on lizard care. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Half price books is a great place for used books, cheap too!!
I have owned reptiles in my life. Leaf-tailed geckos, box turtles, frogs, etc.
PLEASE make sure that when your kiddo plays with this creature, she washes her hands before and after.
Before, because you dont want to transfer any foreign substance to the lizard. Thay have very delicate skin that will obsorb toxins.
After, because most reptiles carry salmanella. (sp)
You dont say what kind of lizard you have. If you have a specific question, feel free to ask me. I may or may not know, but I'll give it a shot. Many moons ago, I even worked in a local, family owned pet store.

Good Luck to ya!!!

Hello there,

I have been breeding various species of pet lizards since the early 90's. What kind of lizard does your daughter have? The book I would recommend would be dependent on the species. I have kept, raised and/or bred leopard geckos, day geckos, fat tailed geckos, frog eyed geckos, bearded dragons, iguanas, savanna monitors and nile monitors. We live on the west side of Houston and my husband is a snake breeder (not his day job!), so we are pretty knowledgeable about pet reptiles. Give me a call ###-###-#### or email me either at ____@____.com or ____@____.com (home email).

I don't know what part of town you live in, but Zookeeper at Burnet & 183 is very helpful with care of these types of animals. They can give you the correct answers (Petsmart & Petco don't know anything even if they act like they do), & they can reccomend the best book. They also sell supplies & books there. I had a bearded dragon, they're pretty cool pets. One day when my son gets older we'll get another one for him.
