Seeking Childcare/Preschool Options in Duluth/Suwanee Area

I have a 2 1/2 year old son and want to get him into some sort of childcare classes/program. Now he goes to an in-home daycare with three other little boys (ages 1 to 3). We LOVE his daycare provider, she's like a member of the family. However, my son is getting bored and the daycare provider has always suggests tp the parents putting the kids in some type of classes or structured program by the time they are three. Ideally, I would like something part-time (can still bring him to his daycare lady when he's not in "class") and a program through a local church. We're Catholic and belong to St. Monica's Catholic Church, but they do not offer anything. I work in Lawrenceville and we may be moving to Suwanee/Buford within the next year so we want to find something on the north end of Duluth or south end of Suwanee. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

And...how about summer programs??? Thanks!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to all who responded. I have enrolled my son for "summer camp" at Horizons Christian School which is off of Lawrenceville Suwanee Road in Suwanee. I'm very excited for him to be going and the place seemed great. They offer weekly summer camps with a different theme to each week. Classes run from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., but they offer all kinds of extended before and after care. They also offer lots of flexibility with the number of days a week you can chose to enroll your child (2, 3, 4, 5 day programs). If we end up staying Duluth, I will likely enroll him in their preschool program for the 2009-2010 year. Thanks again everyone!

My child just started at Bright Horizons at the corner of Satellite and Boggs Rd. in Duluth. They do offer part time and they are very structured and kind. I am not sure how close to you this would be, but I would say it is worth looking into and maybe worth a little extra drive. If you decide to check it out, tell them K. G sent you. :) They have a website if you would like to check it out first, http://www.brighthorizons.com
I think you would be pleased with them.

All of our children have gone to Christian Beginnings which is located at the Duluth United Methodist Church on Hwy. 120. Their program goes through Kindergarten. We've been very happy there.

I am a 2 year old teacher at Buford First United Methodist Church on main street in Buford. We have a great preschool program. I know this is out of you way now but thought you may be interested if you moved to Buford. The school day is from 9 to 1. you can choose anywhere from 1 to all 5 days a week for a 3 year old.

My kids are in the Mother's Morning Out/Pre-K program at St. Benedict in Duluth on Parson's Road. They offer a 2 day or 3 day program for 3 year olds, which includes a little religious lesson once a week. My 4 year old in the Pre-K program knew the Hail Mary within 2 months of school! My boys and I love the program, the teachers are wonderful-check it out, it fills up fast.

We go to Shadowbrook Baptist Weekday School and love it! I think the only openings they have left for this fall are the 1 yo class and the 2 day 3yo class. If he'll be 3 before Sept 1st he would fall into the 3 yo class. If his birthday is after Sept 1st he would have to go on a waiting list for a 2 yo class and I have no Idea how long the wait list is. Unfortunately many school have already registered for fall classes. i've never lived anywhere that did it so early. I friend of mine teaches at Notre Dame academy in Duluth and loves it there and, bonus for you, it is a catholic school. Good lick finding a school that fits your needs.

Hi, I would check the local methodist churches in the area because they often seem to have classes and schools, the internet yellow pages for pre-schools, etc.

L.,
Since you are maybe looking at Buford I would suggest Sonflower preschool in Buford through Church of Christ. We are also Catholic and go to Prince of Peace (which we love)! But I must tell you both our children attended this school very small classroom sizes no more than 10 children with two teachers. Our children are now 11 and 8 and really benefited from this program. Miss Connie is the director. It is only 3 days a week from 9:30am-1:30pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays. What always kept me there was the amazing teachers, ciriculum, etc. etc. I was allowed to pack our own lunches which was terrific. When we attended it was under $100.00 per month which is a steal in this day and time I am sure it would have to be more but they always kept it reasonable. You can bet it fills quickly! We had a group of Mom's that all used this when our children were young. If I ever had another child this is where I would try to get in. Good luck.
Our children loved this!!!
Good luck, R.

Duluth First United Methodist church has an excellent part time program from 9:30-1:30 and you can choose 3, 4, or 5 days per week. My 3 year old loves it. We are Christian, but not Methodist or Catholic so we like the program because they spend most of the time with academics and only an hour a week or so on Bible studies. We have found that the Bible teaching is quite general (they teach about stories from Genesis and the Gospels mostly). There is also a Baptist church just down the street that has a similar program and I've heard good things. They are both on Highway 120 in Duluth, not sure if that's a good location for you. Register NOW if you want a spot!
