Seeking Catholic Church in Houston

I am Catholic and we attend "Prince of Peace" Catholic church. We live in Tomball but just over the Houston line. Prince of Peace is located off of HWY 249 and Perry Road. We have been attending for about 4 years and really feel at home here. It is a large church with a ethnically diverse congregation. Although it is a large church I feel more at home there than I did at my former church. There are TONS of opportunities to be an active member if you wish. You can google to find out more about it.
We have lived in Houston for about 12 years and we came from New England. (MA and RI)

I'm not sure where you are going to be living, but we go to St. Patrick. It is located inside the loop close to I-45 and Loop 610 North. It is not an affluent church. But we call it home. The people there are very welcoming and there is a great sense of community there. Our priest is a very compassionate man and does what he can for the St. Patrick community. It is predominantly hispanic. There are 2 masses in Spanish and 2 masses in English on Sundays and one English mass on Saturday. I hope you find what you are looking for. God Bless You!

I've lived in a few parts of town so I'll tell you about the ones I've been to:

St. Justin Martyr - Southwest Houston, it has been a few years since I visited, but when I did, it was a very open, welcoming, friendly parish.

Assumption - North Houston near Airline and I-45 - Older parish, beautiful church in a less affluant part of town (haven't been there in years but went there as a child)

St. John Vianney - West Houston, West Memorial area near I-10 and Memorial - upper class, active but not as friendly (people seemed to keep to themselves in my experience and were harder to get to know)

Christ the Redeemer - Northwest side, near 290 and Huffmeister - friendly community; currently building new worship space as they have grown a lot. Everyone I know who goes there loves it.

Prince of Peace - my current church - Northwest Houston on 249 near Willowbrook mall - friendly, active, welcoming. Love it! Has a weekday mother's day out program for kids your little ones' age along with Sunday school as well.

We moved to Northwest Houston 12 years ago and went to "Prince of Peace Catholic Community" to see how we liked it. We have been parishioners ever since. It is a large parish, but you feel welcomed the first moment you get there. There are so many different ministries and outreach programs you can be involved in. My family attends St. Anne (they also attend school there) on Westheimer. The best mass for you is the 9am on Sunday. It's the family mass - tons of kids. Afterward there is 'coffee/donuts' in the parish center. It's free, the kids have a great time, you can visit with others, and it's also a great way to bribe your kids into behaving well during mass :-) Good bahavior = donuts after mass. Some masses have 'Breaking Open the Word', where teachers (other moms)take the kids elsewhere to discuss the gospel at their own level, do some kind of fun activity, and then return them to you after the homily. Gives you a little peace for a little while. Hope this helps and I hope to meet you someday!

My husband and I moved to Houston almost 3 years ago with our 4 children now ages 9,6 and 3 yr old twins. We highly recommend St. Cecilia's Catholic church which is in the Memorial area of West Houston. A young, vibrant community with a great group for young moms called God's Gifts.
