Help! I have a wonderful little boy who is almost 3, and is getting to the age of wanting to play, so all I hear all day is play with me mommy! I really feel he needs to play with other kids his own age, and his only sibling is 10, so it's like he's the only child. He has never been in daycare, which I love, but he needs friends! I live in Sandy, is there any playgroups???

What can I do next?

Check out www.momsclub.com and www.mops.org

They are organizations for moms and kids to get together to do activities and play dates.

I know there is a Moms Club in Draper, but I'm not sure if they extend into the Sandy area.

I love the Moms club. http://www.momsclub.com/ They have chapters almost everywhere and if they don't have one close, you can start one. There is a $20.00 charge per year to cover overhead costs and help with the service project but they also offer scholarships if you can't afford it. Best group I've found. Check them out.

Does your daughter have any friends with younger brothers?

I know it's snowy now, but next month you could start taking him to the park/school yard playground for 1-2 hrs a day.

You could sign him up for gymnastics or indoor soccer at a rec center. There you can meet kids his own age and arrange to meet with them between classes to play.

Many churches have a playgroup for 2-4 yr old kids. You could ask your neighbors to see if such a playgroup exists in your area.

Have you heard of MOPS? It's a great fun group that ministers to Mothers of Preschools (infants through kindergarten). There's one that meets in south Sandy. Call Peggy Douglas at ###-###-#### or check out their website: www.mops.org.

Hey,
If you are interested I have a 3 year old boy and a 5 year old boy and I have been looking for some playmates for them also. We could get together so they can play or even try to find a play group in our area. I live in Draper but am very familiar with Sandy. I used to live there also. If you are interested you can contact me by e-mail. My boys would love to have some new friends.

Hi S.,

Me and some of my friends with young children try to get together every one to two weeks for lunch/playdates at a local restaurant. You are more than welcome to come and join us if you would like, we welcome newcomers to our very diverse group. We live all over, from West Jordan, Draper, Sandy and Riverton. Since we are scattered we meet at different locations to accomidate everyone. I personally have two boys a 6 month old and a son who will be 3 in April so he is close in age to your son. A couple of us were talking about when the weather is nicer trying to set up some type of weekly activity. I will send you my e-mail so you can contact me if you are interested.

I live in West Valley, and my kids are 1-1/2 and 4-1/2, but I found a good group by checking out homeschooling groups. I don't really remember the web-site I found them on, but I could find out if you are interested. Is your son in pre-school? I think that has helped my 4 yr old get her "friend time" in and not be bored at home as much. On the other hand, some good play time with mommy is always good. If you are like me, you just don't want to get down on the floor and play all the time, but finding some good games that you do like to play is always good. My 4 yr old loves to play Go Fish. The cards are great for matching/memory games, too. My favorite cards I think came from the $ store. They have animals and cars and toys that are easy for kids to recognize. They get to play and learn at the same time. Also, my dd loves puzzles. If you put a 24 piece puzzle together and leave a couple spots open then he can find the missing piece, little by little he will be able to put it together alone. My sister was doing puzzles by the time she was 2 because my mom started out like that--just a couple pieces at a time. The other thing that I used to do for my 10 year old when she was little was cutting construction paper in strips and letting her make paper chains. She would be entertained for hours. Of course, it depends on your child's developement because I haven't done that with my 4 yr old yet, I think my 10 yr old was just ready for that stuff earlier than my other children have been-- I think she was 2-3 yrs old when I started doing that with her.
Good luck with playgroups.
