Seeking a OB Gyn

Hi! I am new to Fresno and I am looking for any referals to an ob gyn. Please help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Follow up...my son turned 5 months today. I did pick Dr. Steinke however he did not deliver my child. My son was 3 weeks early and of course I went into labor 2 days after I saw Dr. Steinke. I went into labor 11/7/08 at 330am, and did not realize that I was in labor. I spent all day at home calling Dr. Steinke's office. Dr. Steinke did return my call however he told me "I just saw you on Wednesday and you had not dropped or dialated. blah blah blah there's no way you could progress that fast. Just take it easy, drink some ice water and lay down and relax. I will be out of town and will be back on sunday. try to wait until then"

Of course I was shocked by his response and just laid around the house like big girl and was in serious pain. By 530pm, I called the on call doctor and told him that the pain was getting stronger and painful. Yes, I know people are wondering, didn't you notice that your water broke? Well, I would have if it were a gush of water like I have been told to expect however my water was leaking?!?

At 930pm, the pain was so unbearable that my husband had me call the on call doctor again and ask him to meet me at the hospital to check me out. I get to the hospital and when the nurse checks me, she asks me if I notice that my water was leaking. I told her that I thought I was just peeing on myself and did not worry too much about that because I was in pain. Nevertheless, my son was born the next morning by c-section. Dr. Steinke did not deliver him and all the blood tests and ultrasounds and genetic testing were not able to tell me that my son was going to be born with down syndrome and congenital heart disease. I am very disenchanted with the medical care that I received since moving to Fresno.

In conclusion, doctors are just doctors and as I can see, we are just money and they don't really care.

Thank you for everyone's responses. I have picked Dr. Steinke. As of last week I am 20 weeks and just beginning to have my pregnancy bump.

I highly recommend Dr. Michael Illingworth. His office is located on the Clovis Community Hospital grounds (I really love the plush delivery rooms-take a tour), which means easy acces to the hospital just in case. Also, he offers 3D or 4D ultrasounds in his office. The staff is always friendly, there's a female nurse practitioner/midwife if you prefer, and he is very easy going with a great sense of humor. He is also up to date on the latest woman's health procedures, which he has performed on my 49 yr. old mom to relieve symptoms from fibroid systs. All of my friends go/have gone to him. His number is ###-###-####. Congratulations and best of luck to you and your new little one.

Dr. Robert Maly is the best. He is at Millbrook/Herndon and his number is ###-###-####. He is a little blunt, but he really made sure I was taken care of at the hospital after my C-section. I know at least 5 people who have had their babies with him as their OB-Gyn in the last year and he also delivered my cousin who is now 28 years old. He has been doing it forever, but he is not old fashioned.

Dr. Gail Newel with Fresno Women's Medical Group. The phone # is: ###-###-####. They are located at 7050 N. Recreation, Ste. 102. Herndon between Maple and Chestnut. I have been going to her since 1991 when I saw her for my first exam before getting married. She's wonderful, and although I don't see her now for simple annuals, her staff is good and you'll be taken good care of. She was with me all the way for both of my pregnancies. I don't know what kind of insurance they take, or if they are accepting new patients, but it can't hurt to try! Good luck!

Hi T.,

Laura Reddington is one of the best. Herndon & West.

A.

Dr. Roydon Steinke is an excellent one who also promotes natural birthing and breastfeeding. His number is ###-###-#### and is located at 6327 N. Fresno St. He is reputably one of the best in Fresno and provides personalized care with a private practice office rather than a large clinic environment. If the father is involved in the preganancy, then he will encourage his participation as well, including his presence during delivery. He will give you a consultation so that you can meet him and talk to him and see if you like him before you decide to choose him as your doctor.

I go to Robert Curry. He is on Fresno Street. He is wonderful. He delivered both of my youngest two children. Congrats!

I belong to a local mom's group in Fresno and quite a few of us go to ...

Dr. Vasanth Vishwanath
7075 North Maple Avenue
Fresno, CA 93720
###-###-####

And his Nurse Practitioner Sam (Samantha) is just the best!
