Seeking a Charity That Accepts Toys
Hi, I have a bag of gently-used toys I'd liek to donate to a good cause, but the two places I've looked so far (a battered women's/children's shelter and the Brown Elephant on Sheffield) do not accept toys due to "liability reasons." I'd hate to just throw them away....does nayone know of a charity that does accept used baby toys?

The post office sponsor a program called Letters to Santa (I think that's what it is called). Needy children (or parents of children) write letters to "santa" and the post office puts them out for you to read. You pick a child or children and buy them a gift to send for Christmas...this might be a great place for your toys. I found a bunch of letters at the large post office on Harrison, but I am sure other offices have them. It's a great idea and there are SO MANY letters, I wish more people knew about it.

Hi L., There is a teen home in Lincoln Park for young women who are in the Illinois Foster Care Program. All are pregnant or have young children. They appreciate any donations that you can give and will give you a tax receipt. The home is located at 400 W. Dickens, 2 blocks west of Lincoln Park Zoo. Ring the buzzer and the security guard will let you in and write you a receipt.

The National Childhood Cancer Society accepts all toys. Go to NCCStruck.com and you can actually schedule a pick-up of anything you want to donate. The trucks come around neighborhood about once a month and we get a card in the mail, but they will also call you to schedule a pick-up if you do not have a card.
