Secondary Infertility
Hello moms, I guess I am suffering from secondary infertility and I finally made an appointment at a fertility clinic and I was wondering what I can expect at my appointment. I haven't had any tests or anything yet. If anyone had any experience with this could you tell me what tests they may do and what meds if any I will have to take. Thanks

I am sorry you are having fertility problems. What a shock it must be after already having a son. I hope you don't mind, but I just wanted to mention something you might not think of at this time...
My husband and I both had fertility issues and our doctors immediately suggested all sorts of tests, medications, etc. We started the fertility treatment path until one day on the way home from the specialist, I thought, what the heck am I doing? I hadn't even thought about adoption and none of our doctors had mentioned it either. We immediately dumped all the fertility plans and began the adoption process. I know it is a personal decision, but we just thought, why spend all this time, pain (emotional and physical), and money on fertility treatments when there are so many precious children out there waiting for parents.
We adopted our daughter 2 1/2 years ago. Last year, I gave birth to a wonderful boy (yeah, I know, "happens every time"). Now that I have "one of each" I am so glad we had fertility problems. If we hadn't we never would have adopted our precious girl.
So, don't forget about adoption. It's such a wonderful way to add your family. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. You could also follow this link to the agency we used http://www.holtinternational.org/adoption/
I wish you the best with your fertility appointments. I know how stressful they can be. I hope everything turns out well for you and you are blessed with another child.

Yuck...I went thru a ton of infertility treatments. I can tell you about it if you want. I don't recall if it was secondary infertility or not, but thought I'd comment in case you want to talk.

They will give you lots of paperwork, you will probably meet with the doctor (it's almost like an interview in their office--not in an exam room) to discuss your fertility issues, they might draw preliminary bloodwork depending on where you are in your cycle, they might also do an ultrasound depending on where you are in your cycle...but if I remember correctly, I went back on a different day for the bloodwork, ultrasound, and exam.
The doctor gave us charts for me to start recording my basal body temperature on each morning and suggested trying the ovulation predictors.
The first visit was no big deal but of course it was emotional for me. I think we also set up a time for my husband to leave his "sample".
Good Luck!

Everyone is different. No case is alike or classic. So go to the appointment and see what THEY tell you. Because even if someone here has gone through it, doctors are different too and tell patients different things.

Hi C.,
I too have secondary infertility. I have one 6 year old son. I have never been to an actual fertility clinic, but I have seen a reproductive endocrinologist.
I was having irregular cycles. She ran a gamut of blood work: Estradiol, FSH, LH, Prolactin, TSH, T4, Cortisol, Cholesterol. I also had an antral follicle count, base line. This is a good indicator of how many eggs you have left. I was given the option to start Clomid, which I decided not to take. I haven't done IVF either.
My doctor is Dr.Puscheck in Southfield. She is very good and thorough. She does IVF too. She customizes everyone. I never feel like I am on an assembly line with her. Everyone has different symptoms etc. If you Google her name, you'll find a lot of info!
Feel free to ask any questions! Good Luck!
