Scared to Send My Daughter to Bell Hall Elementary ...peanut Allergy

Hi Ladies,
We are relocating to the Charleston area this summer. We're moving into our temporary housing in August right before school starts. My daughter will be entering 1st grade at Bell Hall Elementary. She has a severe peanut allergy. I just talked to a Bell Hall Elem. worker who answered their phone and she said she's not sure but thinks they serve peanut butter sandwiches there sometimes.

I honestly could not even send my daughter to school on those days. If she touches it or if someone touches it and touches her she WILL have a reaction. She's already been in Anaphylactic Shock once and had to receive steroids and an Epinephrine injection to save her life. Now I'm scared to death to send her there.

Does anyone have any sort of experience with this? I know sometimes other parents think allergic kids make the lives of their own kids harder because of food restrictions in schools & things.

We have peanut free schools in Michigan..do those even exist in Charleston?

I'm super worried now.. help please!

What can I do next?

Hi, K.. I do not have a child with allergies, but when I was touring a different public school in Mount Plesaant (Laurel Hill Primary) a mom asked that very question. The Principal was very understanding of the severity of the issue and would work to accomodate the needs of every child. Just go talk to the principal. I am sure you can work out a solution for your daughter!

And welcome to CHarleston!

Hi! I agree with Connie. I am a Chiropractor and I agree that our bodies dont have to be allergic to anything. This can be greatly improved for your daughter, if not eliminated. Find a good Chiropractor and they can help you eliminate the things in her environment and her body that are triggering these reactions. If you need more info, please just let me know. She certainly has nothing to lose by trying this method. I also agree that home schooling can be great too if it fits into your lifestyle. I recently learned more about homeschooling and was amazed how much the kids are involved with everything:) Best of luck to you guys and many blessings:)

K.,

Please look into NAET ; this is an allergy ELIMINATION tecnique that allows one to live their life without the offending allergen. We have been seeing Dr. Bruce Gwinnup off of Folly Road. His # is ###-###-#### and he is trained in this technique and we have seen some pretty amazing results for my 4 yr. old daughter. Our bodies aren't really "allergic" to foods or substances, however when there are energy blockages, allergic reactions can occur. This just means that our bodies are out of balance and need some adjusting. (same concept as traditional Chinese medicine's acupuncture) NAET uses chiropractic adjustments and acupressure to unblock the energy therefore clearing the allergy or sensitivity.

I know how scary reactions are, but you are moving to Peanut Land. (One of our local "characters" is Tony the Peanut Man.) I totally believe the schools will work with you. However, not everyone understands the ins and outs of the allergy, the extent and the fears of cross-contamination.

If you are a SAHM, have you thought of homeschooling? I know there's a pretty good network of HS'ers down here. (Not all are religious, either.)
