My bread pans have collected a small amount of rust. How do I get rid of it? Also, once it's gone is there a trick to keeping it away?

What can I do next?

I would like the answer to this too. Mine get like that also. I have a friend who sells Pampered Chef so I've slowly been replacing my pans with theirs. They're guaranteed to not rust. I have a few cookie sheets (that I use a lot) two of the round pans and one square. So far none of them have rusted and I've even put some in the dishwasher a few times. My problem is I love my 9X13's with the plastic lids for cakes and brownies and they don't have anything like that. Hope someone has an the answer!

CLR maybe? It removes calcium, lime, and rust. If you're pans are non-stick, it might not work though. I know you can use CLR on coffee pots and things that you use in the kitchen as long as you wash and rinse thoroughly afterward.

I live in Minnesota so all of my baking pans get rusty. I scrub them really good before I use them and after they are used, wash them, then put them in the oven to dry them out so they can't rust from the water that gets left in them.

The rust comes from leaving pans soaking in water.
I have restored cast iron pans before by washing (without soap) drying completely and spraying oil on it.
I have learned my lesson and immediately clean the pan by washing and more importantly drying completely. I spray with cooking oil and store with paper towels in between pans...hope that helps...

I was just at my Mom's and she bought a book 'all about vinegar'. It says to soak the rusted area with vinegar and then use baking soda as a scrub. It should get the rust out. I haven't tried it myself, but I know vinegar does get calcium build up out of things, so I'm pretty sure it might work!

I pitch them when I see rust because it can not be healthy. Try buying a better pan which is made of a non rusting material. (I might be thinking aluminum but I am not positive.)
