I have a question that has been bothering me for a while regarding the rotavirus vaccine my 1 yr old daughter has never received it but according to the CDC it should be administered. So my questions is are there any moms out there who there children have not received the rotavirus vaccine? I should also mention that my dotor did not administer it because my daughter was not born below birth weight.

What can I do next?

I was a stay at home mom who breastfed AND my daughter still got rotavirus at 7 months old. We belonged to a playgroup and I attended some classes with my baby. If you plan to live in a cave, then fine, but otherwise I would choose to vaccinate. It's a really crappy illness. My daughter was sick for over a week and it was horrible to see her that way.

Hi there!

We chose not to give the Rotovirus vaccine due to the fact that there was a small risk of intussusception (bowel sliding over itself) and we were breastfeeding exclusively. I felt that even though I work part-time outside of the home, our daughter would be getting some immmunitiy from the breastmilk. Apparently our child's physician felt the same way as he does not even administer this vaccine in his office. Good luck with however you decide. It really is challenging trying to sift through all the information to make the best choice for yourself and your family.

My son was born at 8 lbs, and he received the vaccine, my doctor didn't mention anything about birth weight. He received it early on, I am pretty sure at his 2, 4 and 6 month well baby visits. It was a liquid that he sucked right down. I was happy he got it, because my daughter was in preschool when he was born, and she could have brought home all sorts of illnesses. Anyway. I would ask, because I think it's a pretty standard thing now.

If I were a SAHM, I would have skipped the Rotavirus vaccine. Because my child entered daycare at the age of 9 months, we chose to vaccinate. I'm glad we did, because Rotavirus went around our daycare yet my child did not get sick.

Oh please. They are giving vaccines for EVERYTHING these days. It is ridiculous. My 2 girls had rotavirus and my 2nd was a newborn. It is totally fine and they can deal with that kind of illness. It is not dangerous as long as they stay hydrated. Relax. Kids will get sick and that's life. A vaccine for this is CRAZY. (P.S. Sorry to sound harsh, not directed towards you, rather the medical system etc.) They'll be fine...

My doctor started giving my daughter the vaccine. My only thing why I'm okay with it is because while I was pregnant, my 2 boys were sick which at the time we thought it was a stomach flu. Not a pretty sight to see your 2 boys dehydrated (not wanting to drink Pedialyte) with diarrhea, vomiting and seeing them weak. Now I'm a sahm, my nephew who attended preschool passed it on to one of my boys, the next day my other son got sick, then i got sick and had to spend an overnite stay at the hospital. it was too much that we all went to the emergency room and that is where we found out that it was the rotavirus. I personally don't want to go through that experience again and if there is a vaccine to prevent it, then i'm for it. I hope this helps.
