I've seen numerous people that use rice milk on here & I have some questions , please.
Did your pediatrician reccomend it?
What reasons does your child drink that, instead of cows milk?
Where do you purchase it & is organic available?
Thank You.

What can I do next?

Mine drinks it because she is allergic to the protein in cows milk.

You can buy it in numerous places but I buy it at the Walmart Supercenter. You can either buy it in the dairy case or off the shelf in an aseptic container.

Can't say I've ever looked to see if it is organic. It could be for all I know.

Some babies/kids/adults are lactose intolerance, so milk is not an option. Rice milk is another option as well as almond or goat milk -- no soy milk though!
Rice milk is available organic in specialized stores.

My middle man is horribly allergic to cows milk. He will be ill for days from it. I didnt give my pedi. a choice. He just said to make sure I buy it fortified. I drink coconut milk myself because I think there is something gross about drinking cows milk. You can get Rice milk pretty much anywhere now days Rice Dream is the most common. you can get unsweetened for cooking and sweetened is always better for milk in cereal...

Fred Meyer/ Kroger I think has the best selection personally. But, I have also not shopped around in a while because they have the best Natural Foods section.

Ssandy456 is right..no soy. It is very very not good. Especially in boys. there are studies though now showing harm in girls too.

We use rice milk for my son.
Our pediatrician did not recommend it. I have lactose-intolerence issues, and so we started him on this. He does eat cheese.

I also think rice milk is great because cow's milk often aggravates cold symptoms. When my son gets a cold (quite often this winter, as he's now in preschool), I don't have to switch milks. We can quit dairy for a while without it being a 'big deal' for him to go from cow's milk to rice milk. And we do supplement with a multivitamin so he gets calcium.

I'm also not a fan of factory farming or factory dairies. Cows are often given hormones to produce more milk. These hormones, in my opinion, are not good for developing boys. Even if we buy hormone-free milk, it's more expensive than the rice milk too.

Organic rice milk is available. We can buy it at nearly any larger grocery store we go to.

we use rice milk and almond milk.
I prefer rice milk when making smoothies or lighter recipes. but we like almond milk to just drink bc it tastes more like regular milk. or also in cereal bc it has more of that filling quality like milk. rice milk is more 'thin' and less filling.

you can get organic for both.

i get mine at regular stores or wholefoods.
i love the Pacific brand the best!

oh and no particular reason to use it other than for health. i use coconut milk to cream my coffee (drinking it alone, i don't like the taste but in recipes or creamer for coffee its amazing!! and SO good for you)

my youngest also shows signs of dairy intolerance so thats what kick started this thing but we all just kinda liked it!

My Son drinks Goat's Milk. It is very similar nutritionally to cow's milk. I didn't give him rice milk because of the low fat content. That is fine after 2 years but he drinks the whole Goat's Milk and loves it. I buy Myenberg and it isn't certified organic but they don't add hormones, antibiotics etc. My cousin's son drank Goat's milk for years until he outgrew his milk allergy. Personally I am a cow's milk drinker and the Goat's Milk makes me gag but my Son love it and doesn't seem to have any problems whatsoever. My family has a history of Milk Allergy (my daughter outgrew it by 1 year) and my Mom and all of her siblings had to drink Goat's Milk as kids. They lived on a farm and had a goat and cow:-) You can buy it at Whole Foods, Sprouts, local market, and Wal-Mart. Here is their website. http://www.meyenberg.com/. I also give my son goat yogurt and goat cheddar cheese. He loves them both. The yogurt tastes just like cow yogurt.

I used rice milk in combination with breastmilk and then into cow's milk to allow a more gradual transition from nursing alone. Rice milk is easier to digest. I spent the year between 1 and 2 gradually introducing first rice and then cow's milk, and it worked very well.
I have found that Trader Joe's tends to have both organic and good prices.
