Hi C.
The recipe my family likes is Ice cream cake
you will need ice cream sandwiches
carmel
choclate
redi whipp (or other whipped topping)
butterfinger candy bars (or any candy bar will work)
You take a box of ice cream sandwiches unwrap them and lay them in the bottom of a glass 9x13 pan cover them with Redi whipp crushed up butterfinger candy bars and carmel and choclate. Put it in the freezer for a hour and serve. Very yummy and very easy

My kids have asked for this "cake" more than once for their brithdays and it is SOO easy:
Ice Cream Cake
Put one layer of ice cream sandwiches on the bottom of a 9x13 pan. Spread Cool Whip over the sandwiches and then drizzle chocolate and carmel (or butterscotch) syrup over that. Put on another layer of ice cream sandwiches. Repeat Cool Whip and syrups. Sprinkle with toffee bits. Freeze.
You need 2-3 boxes of ice cream sandwiches. THis cake looks fancy with all of the "layers" but the kids can even make it themselves!

sounds like you need a fast and loved cake. I made my daughter a Rice Crispy cake. I just made the recipe on the box for rice crispy bars and put it in a round spring form cake pan. I decorated it with ribbon on the sides and did a stencil of a flower with sugar sprinkles. Just to let you know you will need at least two batches for a eight inch round cake pan. I also made extra bars just in case, and I needed them because everyone loved them.

Here is a recipe I really love. It is really easy, the cake is super moist, and the way the frosting is, you don't even need icecream! Even non-cake lovers will ask for seconds!!!

Lemon-Lime Jello Cake

You can also change the flavors of the recipe so that they match with your tastes and/or theme. For instance, one time I made an ocean themed cake, so I used white cake mix instead of yellow, blue raspberry jello instead of lime, and cheesecake pudding instead of lemon. Then I decorated it with graham cracker crumb "sand" and swedish fish. Another time, I did an elmo theme, so I used white cake mix with strawberry jello and the cheesecake pudding again; then decorated with elmo figurines and strawberries.

I am really into cupcakes these days, as they are so easy to make! I have 2 books I highly recommend that have a lot of neat ideas like this. One is by De De Wilson called "The Bakersfield Guide to Cupcakes" and another is by Karen Tack called "Hello Cupcake"

Not sure if this is a good bday cake but it's a fun cake like the dirt cake you mentioned.

Kitty Litter Cake....

Prepared a chocolate cake batter and poured half in one pan and half in another. Then I prepared a banana cake mix and poured it on top of the chocolate. Then I swirled them together. Baked them. While they were cooking, I took the sandwich cookies (like those hydrox cookies - I got the ones with a yellow top and a chocolate bottom - generic at Rainbow). I put the cookies in a food processor and made them into dust. Then I took some out and added green food coloring to it (to make it look darker like it had been peed on)

When the cakes were cool, remove them from the pan. I lined the pan with a plastic white small garbage bag. Then put the cake back in the pan. I frosted them (just used plain white frosting from a can). Then sprinkled them with the crushed cookies. Then sprinkled some green cookie crumbs on top of that.

Mircrowave some tootsie rolls and put them on top. Hang one over the edge to make it look like they missed.

Add a pooper scooper for the final effect.

Well, it's not exactly a recipe, but more of just an idea. For my son's 6th birthday he wanted a pirate theme, so I bought a bunch of donuts from the local bakery and piped white frosting onto them to simulate rope lines. It transformed donuts into little lifesaver rings. All the "cake" got scarfed up by the kids, unlike most true cakes I see at parties.

Was also nice that the kids could eat them with their fingers. It's just too "dainty" to expect pirates to use forks and balance a piece of cake on a little plate, after all! :)

I don't know anything about cakes, but reading your "A little about me:" makes me concerned. It sounds like you have a lot on your hands, and also that you have a lot of animosity toward your boys. Maybe you need some external help so you can get some normalcy back into your life. Or maybe that small excerpt just came across different that how you really feel. It just made me feel very bad for you and your boys.
