About 2 weeks ago I began noticing a bumpy rash on my sons leg. It's not red, it doesn't seem painful to him or itchy. He's got no other sysmptoms. It does however appear to be speading down his leg, but not to any other part of his body. All the rash infomration I can find on the internet doesn't seam to match what he has. It doesn't look like any of them. I'm wondering if all you moms out there have any suggestions.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I took him to the Dr for his 18mo check up and the Dr said he has a severe from of Ecsema(sp?). Thanks to everyone for your advice, I'm just releived to know that it's nothing contagiuos or life threating. I've got some cream for him and the Dr said he'll likly grow out of it.

When my kids were little they ended up with 5th disease it is just a rash and a very low grade fever. The doctors told me it was viral. Could it possibly be a virus or maybe even a reaction to something that you are using in the home. There are so many toxic chemicals in everyday household products. Have you changed anything. www.livegreeneasy.com

My son who is 12 months old has the same thing! It is worse than dry skin. But not quite as bad as eczema. What I have found works, is to put Cortizone cream on his legs until the rash disappears and then I maintain the skin by using Aquaphor lotion.(It can be found at any grocery store and I believe it by the makers of Eucerin.)I usually have to put the Cortizone cream on once a week or every two weeks depending on how they look. I have noticed that the rash gets worse if he is in shorts and crawling around alot on the carpet. But like you say, my son doesnt itch at it, or seem to be the least bit bothered by it. I hope this works for you. :)

My son had a rash and it kinda sounds like that. When we had his well child with the doctor I asked her and she said it was dry skin and to put some Hypoallergenic (sp) lotion on it. You could always call and ask your doctor they are usualy really good at giving advice over the phone. Good Luck

Hi Jen,
It could be a veast infection. I know it sounds wierd, but ask your doctor. It can be treated with a topical cream for a regular vaginal yeast infection. I am not a doctor, I've just seen lots of odd(causing one to raise thier eyebrows)things in children. If it is, it clears up quite quickly.

My daughter has something similar, eczema. It doesn't hurt her, but it spreads and some of it scars.

If it's on the outside of his thighs and looks almost like a bunch of tiny zits, then it's probably basically really sensitive skin. Sometimes it can turn to eczema, but more likely as he gets older he will also get this rash on his upper arms, and possibly cheeks. Although it causes no harm, the rash is unsightly, so here is what my pediatrician recommended to get rid of it: When bathing, use dove soap & get an exfoliating brush to scrub any rash areas. After the bath, DO NOT towel dry the rash areas, but let them air dry, and apply any lotion with 'eura' in the ingredients while the skin is still damp. It takes about a month of consistency, but it does help!

I would make sure they are not bug bites.
I would also take him to the doctor soon, as it is spreading. My son's both had bad skin. On their legs, faces, arms and backs. I was told to switch detergents and then was told it was allergies. My youngest, now 8, is still having problems with his face. I use Mary Kay lotion, satin hands works the best. Of course,it's spendy. Good luck!!!

It sounds similar to what my son has had on occasion. DS had/has excema. He shows no symptoms these days, but we finally figured out what the culprit was in our home, and eliminated the problem. He had a relapse and got that type of rash though when we visited my IL's (for a week - they live in IA) who haven't changed what they use/do in their home.

My 18 month old son gets the same thing, it's eczema. We use Cetaphil lotion and skin wash. It works wonders and it leaves their skin so soft and nice. I have even started using it myself and it does wonders for your skin. You can pick it up at any drug or grocery store. Also there is a brand called gentle naturals that puts out an eczema lotion and wash that work great too. You can pick those up at a retail/grocery store too.(I usually pick it up at Target) And if he has a good break out we do put cortisone cream on him. Also using a mild laundry detergent with no perfumes helps too. But I would get him checked out by your doctor just in case. Good luck to you.

My son is now 12 but I did run into the same problem with him when he was younger. What seemed to help was just plain old cortizone cream. I now know what to do if I start seeing the signs of a rash. I just tell him to put the cortizone cream on before it gets out of hand. I think that some kids have sensitive skin and will easily react to certian things. I did change our skin soap to Dove because it is suppose to be much better for sensitive skin. I think that before the rash gets out of hand you have to apply cream or it can get really bad. Trust me I know, I once let it get too far and really regretted it. It did not hurt him at all but looked very awful on his face. He has also had a rash on his thigh. You might give it a try. That is what they gave us when we went to the doctor about it. Hope it works for you.
