Questions About Diet/behavior Relationship and Vaccines

For a long time now we have had behavioral issues (aggression, lack of focus, defiance) with my 4 ½ year-old son. We have been seeing a pediatric neurologist as well as an allergist. We have tried dietary changes based on the LEAP allergy test but we did not notice much of a difference until we removed gluten from his diet almost 2 weeks ago. He is now gluten free, casein free and soy free as well as preservative/dye free. The good news is that we noticed a significant improvement in his behavior with removing gluten, but it still needs work.
We also have been working on some major sleep issues with the help of our neurologist. He is still not quite on a normal sleep-wake cycle, but we do know that more sleep always equals a better day.
I just started to read Dr. Kenneth Bock’s book, Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma and Allergies. Although my child does not fit into any of those categories, I have read and believe that my child can benefit from a similar approach to treatment.
I was wondering if anyone has a child with any of these conditions and what treatments (diet, therapies, meds) you have used and what the outcome was. Also, in hindsight, I believe that my son and my daughter had identical adverse reactions to their MMR vaccines at one year and I am looking for a way to have my youngest (turning one next week) receive the vaccines separately. ANY advice/feedback is appreciated! Thank you!

So What Happened?

Thank you so much to everyone for their advice. These issues are tough to deal with and I appreciate any feedback! FYI-I spoke to my pedi about the vaccines and she actually wrote me a prescription for the MMR and said each one can be filled separately and we can bring them to her office to be administered when we are ready! This is Dr. Melanie Mitchell of NE pediatrics in Stone Oak. Hope this info helps anyone else with the vaccine (or other) issues!

I'm not sure if this web-site will help, but you may want to take a look at http://www.thepicfoundation.org/ to see if this is what your child is experiencing. This is a new foundation that is trying to educate the medical community. All of their kids were mis-diagnosed until doctors began to listen.

I also tried the elimination diet for my son after finding out that he was allergic to certain foods. In addition, he had severe excema. His behavior improved radically after eliminating all corn and corn derived products (almost as hard to do as removing gluten). We also started giving him fish oil which has curbed his excema issues. He still has dry skin, but he is no longer scratching/crying until he bleeds. I understand that fish oil is also beneficial for behaviorial issues.
Regarding vaccines, I had read quite a bit while pregnant with my third how harmful vaccines are, especially at such a young age, so I choose not to have her vaccinated until she is 2 and then will do them separately.

I don't know if this will help but my 4th daughter has all her vaccines done separately. She has sever reactions to her shots so we do them one at a time to help isolate any more reactions. For a while they said I could wait until she was older (12) and it would be safer for her to do them then but the state got involved and has pushed it to be done now but I can do them one at a time.I do think you can just request that you only do one shot a time. I don't know if this helps.Best of luck to you. It sounds like you are doing what is best for your children. Not over looking the problem but finding solutions. Best of luck to you.
