Hello,

I am looking for a preschool for my 2 year old boy. He has been at home with a family member up until now. I have visited many preschools and here are my top choices:

Primrose of West Allen
Merryhill in Plano
Sunshine International School

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

So What Happened?

Update #2:
After looking at the DFPS website ( http://www.dfps.state.tx.us/Child_Care/Search_Texas_Child... ), I feel like I need to keep looking. All 3 of these places have violations I cannot feel comfortable with. The Allen Primrose had 3 kids make their way into the parking lot unattended. Sunshine had citations for having all sorts of unsafe equipment and cleaning supplies within reach of children. Merryhill had an incident with the wrong child being given medicine. *sigh*
Does anyone else have suggestions for a good accredited preschool in Plano/Allen/Frisco?

Thank you for the responses. I am weighing a lot of factors.

I have several personal recommendations for Primrose in Allen. I have been to the primrose in Plano and the Allen one looks much better in my opinion. I did like Bethany - she seemed very nice the 2 times I talked to her. They have a nice playground. The kids there also look like they're having fun. It is however, the most expensive of my 3 options.

Merryhill in Plano has very nice large facilities and a very nice playground as well. I think it had the most "school-like" feeling, which I like. Their child to teacher ratio is also the best I have seen. Their price is also very reasonable in my opinion. On the flip side, I have no personal recommendations toward it. I found it by searching for accredited preschools in the area.

Sunshine offers a unique advantage - they are bilingual (English/Russian). I think being in a setting with other bilingual kids will be best for encouraging my son to use his Russian. It is also very very close to my work. I'm not a fan of their building layout and they're also booked up though September or October so I would have to wait a little longer to get my son started there. Their prices are also very reasonable.

This is a very tough choice. I still have not been able to decide, but we need to decide quickly as spots are filling up fast at all 3.

I only went to the Primrose in Plano at Spring Creek/Coit, but preferred Merryhill over it and have been happy with it for a year now. I thought Primrose didn't pay enough attention to the kids (as evidenced in my tour) and didn't like the split room that shared 2 classes - don't know if that's the same in Allen.

We used to be closer to Carpe Diem in Richardson, and LOVED it! Merryhill fit what we needed and I'm happy with my 3 year old daughter's care. My 6 year old (1st grader) loves their summer camp too...

My son attends Primrose West Allen and all I can say is the WE LOVE IT!!! I can not say enough great things about the school. The staff is awesome a true blessing. They take such great care of my son. He's been there since he was 12 wk old and is now 14 months. He's in the young toddler class now and thriving. He has learned so much stuff by being there. They are very professional and cooperative. My son gets laser surgery done on his face every 6 wks. The school has been so cooperative and helpful with his healing times when he's at school. I never have to worry when he's in there care. Bethany Liles, the director is so nice and very easy to talk with. Anytime I talk to her with a concern she is right on it. You won't be disappointed if you send your child there.

I don't know anything about the other schools you mentioned as we didn't tour those particular ones.

I would say Primrose of West Allen. My son is at Primrose of Lakehill and we absolutely love it. I preferred it over Merryhill. Good Luck!

I have a friend who met the people from Primrose of West Allen at an event with booths. She was so impressed. They had a little play area for kids set up at their booth, including a small desk and she said they were so patient and interested in doing whatever was best for children.

I'll give an updated response to an old question. As of today, we couldn’t be happier with Primrose of West Allen. We started our older son there in 2005 when he was a year old; now he’s turned into a bright, energetic, friendly, well-mannered six-year-old who was socialized and prepared to handle kindergarten the day he started. There’s no question Primrose had a hand in setting him down the right path. Our younger son has gone there since he was just a few months old, and we’re seeing the same development path in him. The Primrose staff is highly professional, caring and personable. And the curriculum is exactly as Primrose claims … a great balance of childcare, education and fun.

I do not know anything about these schools personally but I can tell you that Primrose in general is great. My now 8 yr old went to Primrose in Flower Mound from 3 yrs till Kindergarten and they had her reading before she left. She had a great head start for school and has since always been on the A honor roll. I have had my youngest at home with me but I am enrolling her as well so she can get a good start for kindergarten in 2 yrs.

I"ve tried several other schools and nothing seemed to match up. We always went back to Primrose.

From the moment my wife and I walked into Primrose, we both new that this was the perfect place for our daughters. First and foremost, CLEAN AND ORGANIZED!!! This may not sound like much but, coming from other pre-school visitations, this should rank high. If a preschool cares this much about keeping the environment clean/organized, only imagine what they can do for your kids! The educators work well with all kids and are fully involved with every child's progress. My youngest daughter (2yr) has already shown vast improvement in interpersonal skills, vocabulary strengthening, socializing, and cognitive recognition. Every morning it has become routine for our youngest to come in and, with a big smile on her face, say "school today?" and "I see my teacher today!" With Primrose, we know for certain that our daughters are in good hands.

Also, any posts you see regarding kids playing alone in bathrooms or kids getting outside, are either false or occurred prior to the new management taking over in 2010.
