Just found out we are expecting, it came as quite a surprise, very happy but uninsured. I know someone recently posted who was in the same situation, but for the life of me, I can't find the thread, and all the other related threads seem to be from a few years back. Does anyone remember the thread I am talking about?? I think it was "Help, pregnant with no insurance" or something, wish I could find it. Any advice would be appreciated. I don't think we qualify for medicaid, just wondering if there are any good hospital payment plans out there???? Thanks a bunch!!!
If you need help with the medicaid apps, or have any questions about stuff you qualify for, I have always found the WIC office to be a fount of info, a lot of times they'll help you fill out the apps and find doctors. When my husband was a student and we were pregnant, I got really familiar with all those hoops, let me know if you have questions.
I had my baby in February with no insurance. I called around several OBs and hospitals and was amazed at the different prices. Just ask what their uninsured/cash price is. I ended up with Trinity Medical Center in Carrollton. They charged about half what Presby Plano quoted me and that was for a C-Section. There was also a huge price difference (literally thousands of dollars) with many of the OBs. Plus some OBs included the labs and blood work and others didn't - which can really add up so be sure to ask about that. I used Dr. Paul Meggs ###-###-####. He was wonderful and had the very best price. I also found the staff to be great and would recommend the office to anyone whether insured or not. Please message me if you have questions. I was in that same boat exactly three years ago this month. But we thought our insurance covered pregnancy/delivery and came to find out they did not. I was devastated and didn't know what to do or where to turn. I called my OB's office and they were more than understanding (probably because I was sobbing!) but it was just a flat rate of $2000 which included all the labs, delivery and everything. It was nice because it cut out alot of the "extra" tests and things that you don't always need because my Dr knew we were strapped. He also had a payment plan but discounted some for paying all up front. Hope that helps...just call around, it won't hurt!!
I saw that someone responded about Trinity Medical Center. I had my daughter there. It was about half of what I paid for having my son in Lewisville. I did like Lewisville better, but I wasn't unhappy with Trinity. My OB I used moved. I used Heather Caudell at Lewisville, she is a midwife, but honestly better than both the OBs I had. She even stayed after delivering to help me learn to breastfeed. Not to mention she is like a one stop shop....she can even do circumsions....which some peditricans can't. They gave me a 30% discount since I didn't have insurance.

try medicaid, you may be surprised.. also CHIP has a program for pregnant women as well, you can make alot more than you can for medicaid.. definitely look into it!
Try for Medicaid....and don't give up. I was in the same boat with my now 1 year old son. They originally told me we didn't qualify, but I didn't give up. They finally approved me, which covered me for the duration of the pregnancy and 2 mo. after, and my son for his first year. It doesn't hurt to try.
I'm due at the end of Oct and in the same boat. My OBGYN has a cash pay plan that is 20% off their fees. We are also on a pay plan with Harris Methodist HEB at a discounted rate. I did not check into Medicaid, but have considered it with others suggesting we try...just been busy....good luck!
I just had a baby(c-section) with no maternity ins. We worked a deal with the hospital(Plano Presby) and my OB(Dr. Katrina Walsh) for cash pay. It was very expensive! Plano Presby was a great hospital but it was very pricey. I think Joanna J. below has the best advice, call around to diff. OBs and hospitals and see what the cash pay rates are. I have heard Trinity in Carrollton is the best price. Although I love my OB, I think if I had a third baby with no mat. insurance I'd have to call around for the best price. There aren't any individual ins. plans out there with decent mat. coverage. It isn't worth it. I called all around and researched that and found that working a deal with the doc and hospital was the cheapest way to go. I haven't heard many good things about the Maternity Card either.

I know North Hills Hospital will do a payment plan for you. We unexpectedly had a large amount due to the hospital, and it was no big deal. Good luck!
