Pregnancy and Mosquito Repellent

When I was pregnant I bought an all natural mosquito repellent made of garlic. It doesn't smell like garlic at all, it has a mint scent. I still have some and have used it on my son and I both...it seems to work quite well. I bought it at the local health food store, Naturally Yours.

Ok, well I read all your responses because I didn't want to tell you something that you've been told a ton of times already. Anyways, those that said stay away from deet is right you can purchase an inexpensive bug spray from Avon that doesn't have deet in it and it smells great. Another one that works is a home remedy I read a long time ago and it's worked for me you take a dryer sheet and rub it all over I swear it works. Anyhow, good luck buy the cheapest one without deet that you can find cause it's only good for a year (I think) I think it's like sunscreen (not as effective).

I use the California baby, which smells good and works great. Another tip I learned from other moms moms last year, put Bounce regular scent fabric softener sheets around you. For some reason that works as a mosquito repellent. Who knew?

We use the Off Family Care and it works well. You are not supposed to use any kind of repellant that has a lot of DEET in it when you are pregnant. The Off is fairly low (I think 5%) so it is ok. That is what I used when I was pregnant both times and what I use on my children as well.

I have used JoJoba oil from Trader Joes, then added some lavender in it (bought lavender essential oil from Whole Foods). Believe it or not, it worked well!

Google my idea to make sure I'm right--I may be misremembering the essential oil.

Instead of spraying you and the kids, spray your yard(have hubby do this) and wait until it is completely dry, mine would do this every 2 weeks. We would use skin so soft when we went off property.

J., I tried to use mosquito repellent only when absolutely necessary and then, I sprayed it on my clothes, not directly on my skin. I was told to stay away from repellent with deet altogether. You could try wearing light weight clothing that covers you if it's not too hot.

Last summer when I was pregnant the dr told me to stay away from the ones with Deet in it.. We got some stuff at Buy Buy Baby It had no deet in it. It had a funky smell, but it worked pretty well.

All Terrain Kids repellant works well for me. I prefer to use non chemical organic products on my skin---it is the largest organ of your body, and everything you rub on it gets into your bloodstream.

you can also get a sprayer bottle. take the cheapo listerine knock off from walmart, the ugly brown kind, original flavor. Spray it all around your patio and area where you will be spending time. It keeps them away for awhile.

White Vinegar. Rub it on with a cottonball or put it in a spray bottle. It does work.
