My pre-teen is to show signs of acne. What are some of your treatment plans that have worked for your pre-teen?

What can I do next?

My 18 year old has been pretty fortunate and not had bad bous of acne. However, when she was about 10, I did take her to the dermatologist as a proactive measure to ensure we were on top of things early just in case.

I have followed a very specific facial cleansing routine since I was about 10. I've used Clinique since that time... twice a day and as I have aged, I progress to the products within Clinique that best suits me.

My daughter follows my same routine. I stressed how important it is to her.

We also drink a lot of water and wear sunscreen.

Dermatologist recommend Clinique, Cetaphil, Purpose

Try X-Out. I think it's made by the dermatologists that make Pro-Activ and it's geared towards teens (and pre-teens). It's available online.

Good luck! When I was a teen there wasn't anything that worked for my acne (that was 20 years ago).

I had horrible acne as a preteen. It was so embarrassing. I wish my mom had taken me to a dermatologist, but she never did until I got older. I tried all kinds of over the counter acne products but they burned and dried out my skin.

When I finally saw a dermatologist he recommended Retina A. It worked but it dried out my skin severe.

I have heard that too much dairy causes acne. Also cleaning up the diet helps as well. An alternative topical treatment is witch hazel, which is sold at local drugstores. My 11 yr. old had a pimple a few months ago. I rubbed his face with the witch hazel and it went away quickly.

Our preteen acne was actually horrible. Suddenly the oil flooded his skin. Had to go with Panoxyl which is pretty hard core (can get at drug store over the counter though). Worked like a charm. My best advice is just to stay ahead of the curve. For us, not hitting it hard made it that much worse to try and clear it up. Good luck!

Proactive products worked on my kids' faces, but the acne on their backs is still an issue. It's better in the summer when they are out in the sun more...
YMMV
