Potty Training Advice, Books, Etc...

"Once upon a Potty" is a great potty training book. They have a version for boys and girls. It goes over the baby's anatomy, what a pptty is for and how rewarding it is for the child once he/she goes on the potty. That's my best and only advice for you. The rest is kinda go with the flow. If you were going to buy a book, use your money on this! It is simple, easy to follow, and I found to work very well with my daughter. Your twins are at the perfect age to start training according to Lora Jensen. My daughter really was trained to use the potty day and night within three day (although we have had episodes of regression that we had to deal with).

I personally never took advantage of her mentoring, but that was an aspect of her plan that I liked.

It might help to let them pick their own potty. We already had a potty for my son and my daughter(1 year younger) kept saying I'll go in the potty when you get me the pink one(the bigger bjorn one) and I really didn't believe her but gave in and she really did as soon as we bought it. For my son the turning point for him was his first #2 accident in underwear he freaked and has used the potty ever since. He was a little older though at the time had just turned 4! My kids also really liked potty time with elmo. We had no luck with pull ups staying home for a few days with an endless supply of underwear worked better for us.

A great potty training movie out there is called "Potty Power" we got it for our now 5 1/5 year old and it was a great movie for her. It's quite corny for the adults, but it gets the kids interested and it talks about "going potty #1 and #2. I am not sure where we got it from, but I am sure if you google it, you'll find it. We have to buy another one because our first one got used so much that it started skipping ha-ha. We had let a friend barrow it and their kids loved it too.

Good luck! My friend has boy/girl twins and she did have two potties for them, they would often sit on them at the same time. I can't think of any potty that works better than the rest, I would just go with what works for you. When they are ready, they will be ready. There are a lot of potty books out there for the kids. They have one esp. for boys and one for girls which worked well with us...at least it gives them something to do when they are sitting there.

My friend's little boy was actually potty trained before the girl, which they say is opposite...you never know.

I went to Borders and found this cute song book.. it was potty songs sung to familiar songs.. it entertained my son long enough to let him give it a good try.. I just can't remember the name!!!

My almost three year old is just about potty trained as i write this. Some things i have figured out: DON'T get a potty that can tip over or rock when/if the kids sit on the edge of it! We had this problem when we first started. Also.. don't get a potty that sings when they pee. The first time the potty sang when my little one pee-ed in it it scared her so bad that she refused to use the thing for another whole month!

We tried potty training with my oldest from the time she hit about 1.5 (she will be three this month). She made it to the potty sometimes but it was almost like a light had to switch on at about 2.7 months before she just "got it" and stopped having accidents. We are now working on the poo-poo angle. She has yet to poo in the toilet. :) She only goes in her pull-up at night or at nap.

I have boy twins that just turned 3 and one was potty trained before 2, the other right around 2.5 so it can definitely be done. I had two baby bjorn kiddy potties for the house and one baby bjorn kiddy potty for my car. When we first started, in the AM if they were dry I sat them on the potty. If they successfully peed/pooped i gave them M/M's as a reward. I did the same thing before nap, after nap, before tub, and before bed. Once we were fairly consistent with these things, I switch to underwear and we dealt with about 3 days of accidents before they got what was going on and managed to get to the bathroom. I didn't scold when we had accidents at the beginning, but just told them it was great they peed, but it needed to go in the potty.
