You are not being lazy! I helped my sister potty train her daughter, and I would put a pull-up on her too. What helped with my neice was we told her that when she stopped wetting and soiline herself (even at night) she would go to Chucky Cheese. Try that and let us know how it works out.

You're not lazy not by any means the fact that you manage to keep both your kids fed and dressed is more than enough to say you're not lazy. I've been there. I know it might be frusterating for you to have your son still in pull-ups at 4 but understand all children are different, his bladder may just be smaller for his age and he can't hold it or the sensation isn't enough to disrupt his sleep. plenty of kids much older than him wet the bed. My oldest was in pulups till 4 at night and his little brother was completely potty trained at 2. It jsut depends on the kid. Not to mention how much harder it is for mom to potty train a little boy. So before you get any more frusterated have a talk with his doctor if you can and see what options there are otehr than limiting his drinking or waking him up. Good luck. Sorry but your being lazy! When I started potty training my son I completely took away the pull-ups. If u get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom what makes u think he doesn't have to potty too. He's to little to decide to get up on his own to potty especially in the middle pof the night when it's dark.
simple solution: wake him up and take him to the potty at night. It beats cleaning ur bedding everyday.

When we were first potty training my son we would put him to bed with a pull-up on, but we would wake him up when WE whould go to bed (around 11pm) and take him to go the bathroom. His bedtime was around 8pm. It helped quite a bit.
And your not lazy. You're just trying to stay sane! :)

I don't really have anything to add, except my four-year-old son does the same thing. He will go for a week with a dry pull-up, and I debate about sending him to bed in underwear, then he will soak the bed--through a pull-up!!! It is frustrating, especially when his playdate buddy was incredulous that my son still wears a "diaper" to bed. :p

I have to fight against falling asleep myself when I tuck him in, so I can't wake him up when I go to bed. Usually if I just make sure he empties his bladder before bed he will make it. And no juice...water only a hour or two before bed. Anyway, I am reading these replies with you sister!

I have a 5yr young daughter and she still wears a pull-up at night. I don't even sweat it. I think a pull-up is better than washing sheets every night or ruining mattresses! What's the big deal anyway? I asked Kiley the other day when she wanted to stop the pull-up thing, she said "maybe when I'm six"! She spends the night with friends too and takes a pull-up with her. He will figure it out, I wouldn't worry about it!

No, you're not lazy. If he still wets the bed, he's not ready to go without a pull-up at night yet. When he is, he'll start waking up with dry pull-ups on. That was my que it was safe to put my son in underwear at night. I never worried about him having a drink at night either. He was five or close to it before underwear at night was possible and I can't recall him having an accident since. Boys are late bloomers so don't let anyone pressure you into rushing him - that's just crazy and it won't work. You can't "train" a child to be conscience of their bladder when they sleep. It just has to happen naturally. Good luck and he'll be out of the pull-ups before you know it!

I agree with the advice that waking him up before you go to bed is a good idea. It helps a bit. I also think when kids are really tired from their day they tend to sleep sounder-which is normally what you'd want- but I believe that's the main reason they wet their bed. They have a dream about water or rivers or even picture themselves on the potty and think they're awake but actually dreaming of going on the potty while their actually going in bed. Maybe a daytime nap would help?
I wonder when he wets his underpants -not pull-ups- does he wake up and cry for you? If he does, keep telling him: you know this uncomfortable wettness can be avoided if you get up...I also wonder if the bathroom is accessible. Are there night lights or lights on so he can easily get up and go? Some kids are afraid of the dark and they'd rather stay in bed.

I HAVE A FRIEND WHOS SON IS SIX AND STILL HAS ACCIDENTS AT NIGHT. WE LOOKED IT UP ON THE INTERNET AND IT SAID THAT ABOUT 10% OF 5 YEAR OLDS STILL WET THE BED AND MANY CONTINUE TO DO SO UNTIL ABOUT 8 OR 9. AND IT ALSO SAID THAT BOYS TAKE LONGER TO GET FULL BLADDER CONTROL THEN GIRLS. SO I SAY JUST KEEP PUTTING THE PULL UPS ON. WHENEVER HE STOPS WETTING THE PULL UPS THEN YOU KNOW ITS TIME!

J., there is no shut off to when wetting in bed ends.
My son wore good nights until age 8, and one night he quit wetting.
It is sound sleepers that seem to wet at night, i believe.
My daughter quit wetting in pull ups at age 3.
I had a sister who wet until age 12.
I suggest even though it is costly, to just get pull ups and good nights if he grows to a age and needs them like my son did.
It is a lot better than washing the sheets every day or a few times a week and possibly ruining the matress.
I wasn't lazy and you aren't either.
Just frustrated i guess is a way to word it.

No youre not just being lazy because you are letting him still wear pull ups. But I think that pullups encourages the bed wetting behavior. I found it harder to potty when my son was in pull ups. So i went back to diapers. I also let my son know that babies wear diapers and only babies wet their diapers. It took no time to break this habit. My son isn't allowed to have anything to drink after 9. This has worked for me. So maybe trying going back to just diapers. Also for a while I would wake up twice in the middle of the night to take him to potty. This has also helped train to know when he has to go during the night.

I have posed a similar question on here. i too have gotten a few great ideas. It helps to know you are not alone. I sympathise with you and wish you luck in your quest for a solution too!!!

Your doing the right thing by not letting him drink 1 hr.before bed have you tryed 2hrs or wakeing him up when u get up to potty or another thing that would be a thought is he might be a heavy sleeper and might needed to be woken heavy sleepers are just that i parade could be going by them when he is a sleep and never wake up but if someone would wake he get to see it i hope this helps u

Well, although I go not have an answer, I have this same situation. My son has been potty trained since about 2 1/2 but he still can't stay dry all night and he is now 7. My pediatrician has asured me that this is not uncommon and really nothing to worry about. Thank God for pull-up "good Nights".
My cousin, who is 4, does not stay dry throughout the night either. My Aunt's pediatrician has also assured her that this normal and further explained that during the night there is a certain reation that causes the urine to condense as to be able to sleep through the night. Often this hormone does not develop at the same time as potty training- so wet nights last longer.
My daughters friend also did not attend sleep overs until she was about 8 or so due to not being able to sleep w/out a pull up.
Finally, my step-brother was about 11 before he could stay dry consistantly all through the night.
Like I said I do not have the answer, but there are lots of us parents out here that are dealling with it. I know some people talk about children who can't stay dry at a certain age having psycological probs but I think that is really geared towards those who wet there pants all day and/or in spite of know they need to use the bathroom.
