My DD is 2 years and 8 mos. old and not completely potty trained yet. We've been working on it since about 18 or 19 mos. She goes no. 2 in the potty daily-no problem. I have been putting her in big girl underwear when we're home for the last couple weeks and she continues to pee her pants, my couch, carpet, etc. I'm wondering if she is just not ready or what? I have a six month old baby as well, so I'm ready for one to get out of the diapers! I put her back in a pull up over the weekend because I was getting frustrated with cleaning up the messes since she clearly wasn't getting it. I was trying to stick to a schedule where she sits on the potty after meals and when she gets up/goes down for nap/bedtime, but we were still cleaning up messes. She goes frequently. I have heard a lot of people say they are not mentally ready for potty training until they are 2 years and 9 mos. or 3 years old. Should I cave and wait another month and try again? Help! Any advice would be great!

Don't worry, it will happen. My son, who is 12yr now, was difficult. I finally put him back in diapers. After about a week, he decided he didn't like that..and then when he wet his pants, I made him take them off and put them in the laundry room. I even got to where I made him clean the pee on the floor. It took only 2-4 times before he decided he didn't like cleaning up the mess. We had a few accidents after that, but not much.

My middle child, a girl, I don't remember...I think she just did it herself..but my last one is a little 3yr old girl, and we just got potty trained this Christmas...that was my gift for Christmas. We are still wearing pullups at night, but the days are going well. We have had a few issues at times. She had one day that I was holding her and she peed on me. It was a bad day, but back to normal now. I tried with the pullups for a while, but we got some Dora panties and that made her want to use them. I think you have to see if they are really ready. Maybe put her back in diapers and see what she thinks. Let her pick out some big girl panties..oh, and we also get treats for using the potty. My daughter likes skittles, so we use those. I take some with us out too. She doesn't like the big pottys in the stores, so we try to go before we leave, but I can get her on the big potty when we really have to.

I hope some of this helps.

Hello J.,
I started our daughter at 16 mo and she did good there for awhile then we moved and sort of set her back but not bad.. When we got in the new place from out transfer away from family I got the stickers OF HER CHOICE she got to pick them out.. She loves horses so she got those and lady bugs. AS SOON as she woke up I took her in to potty she would ALWAYS fight me but I got her books she liked and told her when she got done she could get a sticker and SHE could put it on the chart I made for each day. At the end of the day we always counted them so she could her potty training down PLUS got to learn more of her numbers. lol I would take her about every 3 hrs or if I saw her getting antsy we would go BUT I would make it a game MOMMY is going to beat you to RR. So I would go slow so she would beat me to the potty and she always went lol.. Before nap and ALWAYS before bed. She did pretty good and was all set and in big girl panties by 2 and NO accidents . BUT DO NOT give her anything to drink after 8 is what it was for us we ate late. I would give her a SMALL sip after she brushed her teeth. she is now 4 and is doing good NOW to start on her 18 mo Brother which IS NOT doing to good. He will come to tell me he has to go and get his seat on the toilet but he will sit there and look at books and get down and go in diaper lol... He is a goof BUT at least he has the idea where to go. lol He sees us do it and when Avery goes we would always say BYE BYE as we flushed the toilet and he does that when she goes.. He has gone in big boy potty 2 times which is good I think... Oh well good luck and try the stickers and put the chart on her door so she will see it all the time every day she will get excited at least Avery did and she showed everyone when they came lol... I AM sorry but if a child is old enough to TALK and say WORDS like 3 or more SHOULD be potty trained in my opinion BUT just my opinion....If old enough to get to potty then GO lol.. UNLESS there is a disability then I can understand... I saw on here some at 3 not trained I sort of liked not changing diapers when they can go themselves...

Your daughters bladder may not be developed enough to get the trigger to her brain that tells her she needs to go pee. I would try raising the foot of her bed by what ever means is available to you about 6 inches. This will put more pressure on her bladder making the tigger start to work. You say she goes frequently has she been checked to be sure she doesn't have any kind of infection ?

Hello my name is K. I'm from rocky river. i have a 3 year old dd and a 8month dd. my 3 year old also went in #2 in the potty 1st she was totally potty trained at 2 years and 4months. she would always be in the bathroom with me and i would always say good job mommy. mommy's a big girl. and she wanted to mimic me. but don't all kids wanna be just like there parents. so that was my trick. i also told her she was a big girl and we had to give her diapers away to someone who needed it. so i just appraised her all the time and myself i guess.

Hi J., Our granddaughter is 2 1/2 and she still wears pampers. If I were you I would wait until she is ready because normally it makes them mad and you worn out. I have talked with doctors and they have said that everyone do not mature at the same rate so evidently your DD is just not as ready. I also have a DeeDee and so I have also been there, in fact I thought I would have to send our son to Kindergarten in diapers as he just was not ready until when he was 4. Good Luck kathyp

Hi J.,

I'm a mom of 3 and a grand-mom of 4. It may be that she doesn't quite have the muscle control yet. My 3rd child didn't completely potty train until she was 3. I would continue to encourage her. Pull ups might be the best thing for both of you right now, as they're like panties, but will save you some frustration if she's just not able to hold it yet :-)

My son is 3 and we waited till he was 3 and like 2 months old. We have a 5 month also. I put him in big boy underwear and he's ddoing great with the peeing in the potty it's the other one i can't get him to hardly do. Even when were out he will let me know. She may just be jealous of the new baby also. I would wait till she's 3 and then try again. I wouldn't force her because then that will make her that more likely to pee on things. Just give her a break and see if that helps.

We waited till my son was 3 and I didnt have to do any work at all. The first couple of days I would ask him if he had to go but after that he would just take off and go on his own. There was no fighting any of it. He still isnt potty trained at night but I was told that was a maturity thing. Dont feel bad for stopping the process and waiting a little longer. You dont want to force the issue and then be stuck dealing with issue long after they should be potty trained. Trust me I have seen it. A child that I know that is turning 4 still poops in her pants or holds it so long that mom finally has to give her a stool softner. This was due to being trained to early and the girl wasnt ready. Not mom's fault daycare forced the issue. So relax you wont be sending your child to school in diapers. Even though it feels like it some days. It is a maturity thing and they will eventually get it.

No, I wouldn't wait. I am sure I was one of the mother's that answered this before. You have to the time to take her to the bathroom at least once an hour during the day while she is up. No, she has to stay in diapers, and I would tell her pull ups are for bigger girls and since she wants to be a baby she has to wear diapers!

This sounds just like my daughter. She just turned 2 in Nov and has been pooping on the potty since about 18 mths. Don't feel like you're "caving". She just may not be ready. Try again in a couple of weeks. We do. I try panties for a couple of days, & if it's not working, we go back to diapers and try again. If I'm getting frustrated cleaning up messes, she's not learning. In my opinion. I plan on really trying in the warmer weather when we can go panty-less. Good luck, and it will happen.
