Potty Problems with Daughter (Pee Should Not Shoot Out)

my daughter is 29 months old and is potty trained (started when she was 15 months and now completely trained day time and night time). But we have one little problem...every time I take her the the bathroom, and she goes, the pee shoots out of the toilet and does not even go into the toilet...kinda like how a little boy would go. Now, this has become a serious problem here. She insists on taking everything off (and won't go) because she doesn't want to get wet. So, I take her shoes, socks, pants, undies all off before she goes. Then when she goes, I have to clean up the pee, which is all over the floor.
I will be going to see a doctor for my sons school, and I'll be asking her about it. But I want to know if anyone else has the same problem. Or if I am the only one with this problem.

So What Happened?

well, I took her to the doctor and she said that my daughter sits foward too much maybe and thats how everything comes out. So, what I did was whenever we took her to the bathroom, I would take toilet paper and put it between her legs and that way, the peepee comes out, it'd hit the toilet paper and not the floor and clothing. Saves a whole lot of time cleaning up and everything!

That happens to my kids b/c of how they sit on the toilet. If they sit looking up or straight ahead (ie at the bathroom door in front of them), then the pee goes in the toilet. If they look down - gee - it's so neat to see the pee - then their pelvis is rotated such that the pee shoots on to the floor. Hope this helps.

Both of my girls did this until they learned to lean forward a bit...I think it is very common. Have her bend at the waist and it will move everything else back. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Have you tried to get her to spread her legs and lean forward when she goes? It may just be the way she's positioned as I've had this happen with my daughter when she goes on her small potty and leans back. Just an idea!

If she wants to take everything off, I'd only be dressing her in dresses (she can just hold it under her chin) and sandals!

I think this is very common. I have three little girls and experienced this with all of them. Somehow it seems to change as they get older, but for now, it's all about positioning. Further back on the potty and leaning forward a bit.
Good luck!

It could be just an issue of tilting her pelvis down? It's a subtle thing that we learned how to do when we were little, but forget that it's part of how we as girls pee. Your pelvis can tilt forward or backwards when we sit on the toilet. If our pelvis is tilting FORWARD the pee will go the wrong direction. If we tilt our pelvis BACK, and sit up really straight (slight curve in back), the pee goes into the toilet. Maybe you could show her the difference while you're peeing and see if it helps her? GOOD LUCK!!

This is VERY common. My daughter did it--especially when she waited too long and was in a hurry to go and had a lot to get out :D Leaning forward or sitting backwards on the toilet helped. Going to the potty a little bit earlier than normal can help (ie not waiting until the last minute.) Seat reducers with guards can also help prevent messes.

I think you should have her looked at as soon as possible just to be sure she is formed correctly. She may need some help. I've heard of boys needing corrective surgery, but not girls.

Tell her to keep her knees together. My daughter had this problem, too!

This happened to my daughter too. I would have her lean forward and hold a wad of toilette paper in front of her so the pee couldn't shoot out. Eventually it corrected itself. It never hurts to ask the Dr. about it though if you are concerned.

If she's using a floor potty for toddlers, get rid of it! My daughter kept shooting the floor too, so I took it away and told her that she can't use it anymore and that she was too big for it. She just uses the big potty now.

Have you gotten her to lean forward when peeing? Something similar happened with our daughter when she was first training, and we realized that she was leaning back, cocking her hips funny and it just aimed everything that way.

It's funny that some mom's said to have your daughter lean forward - because, for my daughter, if she leaned forward (and was kind of looking down to see everything come out) that is when she would squirt out of the toilet. As I'm writing this, I guess even though her head was leaning forward, her pelvis wasn't, and hence the problem. Good luck!

I forgot about this problem with my daughter. We experienced it too.

I did have a Dr. check her, because her pee arched up and out like a boy.

My daughter was small for her age, and her urethra was very small too, normal for size, just small for the amount of urine.

So I placed her on the toilet facing backwards, since you're taking off all of her clothes anyhow. This completely solved the shooting beyond the toilet problem.

Ha! This happened to me and my daughter for the first time while at breakfast at CrackerBarrel! She had just started potty training and went to use the bathroom and she sat down and just completely soaked me!! I was so shocked! I had never heard of this happening either but it only happened the one time. So I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Stand her in the BATHTUB ! ! !

That way IF her Pee "shoots out"
(I presume that you mean it shots out in a FORWARDS direction) the pee WON't be "all over the floor" it will be in the Bathtub.
And all you have to do after she's finished Peeing is to just turn on the COLD Tap to flush it away.

Have her sit with her legs to the front of the toilet seat and not splayed out to the sides. Hard when they are so little. A little potty might be better or a potty insert in the big toilet.

That happens with my 23 month old if she is sitting in the wrong position like McMamma said. Have her try leaning forward a bit.

Have you talked with your daughter's pediatrician about this? There may be an issue with the anatomy of her urethra. The doctor may refer you to a pediatric urologist. These kinds of problems are not uncommon, so you should not feel like you are the only one.
