i get this alot, and last summer i had very bad allergies that caused me a post nasal drip cough, we happened to have my newborn dauhters humidifier in our room since she was still sleeping in our room and after a few nights of it running next to my bed i was practically cured of the runny nose and cough. i use it whenever my daughter gets a runny nose and it seems to clear her up pretty well too. also sleeping with your chest slightly elevated helps some too. keep s everything from settling in your throat. i dont really know of any natural cures tho, have you tried a natural healthfood store like Queens?? they are very knowledgable and would probably know some products that would help.

Sounds like allergies. I would see about having the doctor prescribe children's Claritin. Up until age 3 my daughter took less than the 1 teaspoon dose but I don't recall the exact amount and you would want the correct dose based on your son's age and weight.

Hi J.,

Find PURE Medicinal Grade Eucalyptus oil and diffuse it in your child's room at night and downstairs during the day, 15 minutes every hour. Email me if you have any questions.

since your child is 2.5 yrs old, you can give claritin over the counter in the liquid form. Get the generic loratidine which is the same but will cost less. It can be dosed for children 2 and up. This will help the post nasal drip and therefore cut down onthe coughing. Best to give it at bedtime when histamine levels in the body rise. Hope this helps.

Zyrtec is the best. I tried it when one of my customers told me it dried out her daughters runny nose. I give my almost two year old the recommended amount before he goes to bed. It really works and it does make them sleepy so do it before bedtime.I told the doctor about it at his checkup yesterday and she was fine with it. she also said to give it before bedtime. if you belong to sams or bj's you can get two bottles for $17.99 which is very reasonable. It sounds like he or she has some type of allergies that cause the post nasal drip. I know what you mean i went through the same thing. remember to gives lots of water, this will helps with the post nasal drip. good luck

Are you certain your child doesn't have asthma? Chronic cough that frequently (esp. at night) is one of the symptoms in young children. (you may not hear wheezing) Allergies are also possible, as other posters mentioned.

my 11 year old has had allergies since he was about 3 years old, so i know what you're dealing with. when he was little i would just do over the counter meds, that seemed to do nothing really, except the benadryl of course, which worked, but also put him to sleep...

since we've been going to the chiropractor, his sinus issues have been better - we just started that last year.

for that 'evil' chronic cough that has caused so many sleepless nights we have found the cure!! Vick vapor rub on the feet with socks at night time, stops it like a miracle.

finding out what he's alergic to helps too, have you been to an allergist yet? we didn't know until my son was 6 but it made a big difference once we did find out because we would keep him away from the things he was allergic to.

good luck to you.

Vitamin C -- beef up the immune system with vitamin C and adequate rest so your child doesn't get so many infections. Also pay attention to your environment and when the sinuses start to drain, because it may be due to allergies.

I have 2 sons, 7 and 8. We give them organic yogurt every day - the one from Whole Foods or Genuardi's with the cow on the label. All I can say is that a doctor recommended this and they hardly ever get sick. The beneficial bacteria is supposed to strengthen your immune system. Hope this helps.

Hi J.,

Build up their immune system with Vit. C and probiotics.

Go to your local health food store and see if they have Hyland's Vit. C tablets for infants and toddlers and probiotics for them as well.

Good luck. D.
