Playgroup to Teach Spanish

I would like to begin teaching Spanish to my 18 month old and wanted to find a playgroup with other children her age that are also just starting to learn the language. Does anyone know of a group? I contacted the Spanish Schoolhouse because I heard they had a Mommy and Me class but have not heard back.

What can I do next?

I'll be hosting a playgroup (free for ages TWO and under) staring the first week of July. I do teach classes but all my classes start at the age of three (www.BilingualPals.com) I'm located in Plano.
I have very limited space so if you're interested please feel free to contact me. I'm in the process of setting the day and time.
For any questions or details feel free to call or email me.
Thank you!

K.,

I am in the process of getting some Lango classes started in Collin County. We have mommy and me classes that will be offered. Classes will start in the Fall. Feel free to visit http://www.langokids.com to find out more information. If this is something of interest, let me know and I will keep you posted on the class schedules.

Hi K.,

I have been thinking about the same thing for the past several weeks. I am so glad you posted this because we've also been searching for classes that teach Mandarin at my child's age (2) and I was able to find out about Lango.

About your question, I heard good things about the spanish school house, plus their prices aren't too steep. But I have been thinking of getting a playgroup together myself and just doing some simple teaching to the kids of this age group. What i have done so far is getting the books from the library (spanish/english books for toddlers) and started teaching my little one. He knows all of his colors, shapes, and up to 15 in spanish. He also knows many of the animals in spanish and a couple of phrases as well. I started off doing Mandarin with him but then he would only want to speak mandarin and so I had dropped it and never picked it up again. And since his school has a spanish class (not really) I decided to pick up teaching him spanish.

The books from the library are great and it works well for children of this age group. Also the Jumpstart Spanish CD ROM for preschoolers is pretty good. My son has been using the computer since age 1 and doesn't need me to load anything. He jumps on the computer, logs in, starts his game and plays it. So if your little one knows how to maneuver around the computer and can use the mouse and keyboard interchangeably, then this would be a great option too but if you have time to sit with him/her you can both do it together. I think the CD is very well put together and is a lot of fun!

Hope this helps!

Hi K.,
I teach Kindermusik with a company called "SoundSteps". Occasionally, we offer spanish classes with music. We don't have any currently for the summer but if you're interested, I'll send you information about our fall schedule that will be up soon on our website www.soundsteps.com.

Hope that helps!

Hi K.,

My name is K. Day and I am a degreed, fluent Spanish speaking Early Childhood Spanish teacher for a private school in North Dallas. In addition to tutoring students and adults of all ages in Spanish, my expertise is teaching Spanish to children ages 18 months to 6 years. I use proven immersion methods that are fun, engaging and relevant. Some of my students that I have worked with since age 3 are now fluent readers and very proficient speakers of Spanish at age 5. My schedule is flexible, but filling rapidly, so I would love the opportunity to speak with you regarding group Spanish lessons. If you organize the kids, I can bring the Spanish to you! Please feel free to contact me at ###-###-####. Good luck assembling your Spanish group. You are wise to seize the window of opportunity for your child to become a truly fluent speaker of a foreign language that diminishes sharply beyond age five.

Give Spanish Schoolhouse another chance. My son attends preschool there (in Flower Mound), and they are great. It's a great option. Good luck!
