I have been looking at both and can't see much difference except that the plasma may be a little less expensive.

Glad you ask this question because I would like to know too.

Thanks,

Check out the link below for Crutchfield's pros and cons of each type:

http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/S-H8ZHWRoBTeC/learningc...

That being said, I prefer plasma. They are much better for fast-motion, and typically have better color and black levels. I just bought a Samsung PN50A550 and love it.
It also depends on your viewing situation. If you will have light shining directly on the TV, LCDs are a little better at reducing glare and typically have brighter displays than plasma. If you will be viewing at shaper angles, plasma might suit you better.

You can also check out www.cnet.com for specific product reviews for model comparison. Both crutchfield and cnet offer great advice without pushing you to one product or another.

Hope this helps,

We have both. 2 36" Dell Plasma. Very good quality, good picture. I have noticed that one of them gets a little hot when on a long time. It is in the Wii room so it is used a lot with daughter and her friends.

We have 2 46" Sony Bravia LCD that we love that are in the family room for everyday use. They do not get as hot. We have a smaller Samsung LCD that is is great and a very small Sharp LCD with a dvd built in that is very nice.

We like all of them quality wise so I can't really say what is better. They all have great pictures, color and are clear.

The oldest tv is a Dell plasma and it is about 3. We have noticed no difference in quality with age. We have had no issues with any of the tv's. We ordered the Dell's online and they were delivered directly to our door with no issues at all. We have had overall good experiences with Dell. My husband is using his 2nd laptop computer from them, my daughter and I have Dell laptops that we love.

That said, we've had a lot of Sony tv's that have given us no issues with breakdowns, etc either.

I think you would be happy with either.

I have been told that the Plasmas are made to burn out after only a few years.

Rossel,

If the room is really bright or has direct light on TV, LCD is better. Also, if you are viewing the TV from angles and not really straight on, LCD has better side viewing. But Plasma pic is very good as well. To be honest, if you get a really good quality LCD, I think that is the best bet. We have a Sony Bravia and they are awesome. Good Luck!

I have read and heard that LCD uses less electricity. So a cheaper Plasma may not be the answer.

I researched on-line and decided on LCD. Went and checked at different stores with my husband. Thought we would wait for a better bargain. A week later my husband tells me he found a good bargain!! He brings home a Plasma!!!(he thought he was getting a LCD) I thought we would give it a try before returning it. We ended up keeping it. The Pros are that it does have a sharp, clear image.(we have a fairly dark room that its in) The cons are that it distorts the image on the TV around the edges. (makes really thin people look obsese!)It also put off a lot of heat. ( I shudder to think of the energy its sucking up??) Overall we like it but have only had it a few months.

We have an LCD and it has a beautiful picture. I don't have anything bad to say about it.

I did hear from a few other people that plasa can get picture burn and if you have a lot of natural light in your house it can be hard to see the picture.

LCD Tv.
If you tilt your plasma in any way they are ruined! Very fragile!
LCD TV's are better for game systems also. We have three LCD TV's and are very happy with them!
Hope this helps! :)

lcd tv is te best, because they use less energy and you can replace the bulb when it goes out in about 7 years. With plama gas is gone and you can not recharge it. you would have to recycle and get a new tv. B.

I would definitely go for the LCD. From what I've read, not only are they much cheaper, but take A LOT LESS energy to run than a plasma.

I bought a plasma 3 years ago and it has already stopped working. We paid $1000 and it will be $700 to fix, so instead of fixing we bought an LCD for $800. We really like the LCD.

I've heard that LCD is better for long term. We have a Sony LCD, and 1080i is best.

My hubby just saw this & said, "Plasma degrades over time, & you can't get the quality back. With LCD's, you can change the bulb, & it's back to new." Hope this helps!

We've been looking at the LCD/HD Sony and Polaroid, they seem to have the best picture. The 1080 models are what we've been looking at and we've found them for, 42" about $1200.00 and the 36" around $700 - 800.00. We look for picture quality, features and sound. We already have a regular 32" Sony, that we've had for about 7 years. Not one problem with it ever! Another name I trust is RCA(had a 20", for about 20years!!!) We haven't really look at the RCA LCD's, we're pretty set on a Sony or Polaroid when we buy. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Just go and look at both side by side in stores. We can tell you all the differences, but it really hits home when you are looking. We just went through this exact dilemma last week and decided on an LCD - but honestly only because we found a great deal on one. There is a big difference in how the picture looks. The LCD is much brighter - which I actually like; however the Plasma is more realistic which I am told more people prefer. Circuit City has some really good deals on both Plasmas and LCD's right now.

The day you buy a plasma is the brightest the icture will ever be. The pic fades over time and you can't replace anything to get it back. Lcd had a bulb you can change when the picture starts getting darker. We have a 43 inch panasonic lcd TV. Love it and have had it for over 4 years and we're just now looking at replaceing the bulb. Some of the movies we watch at really dark movies.. Good luck
