Pillows in Crib
My son will be a year old in a few weeks. At what age is it safe to start giving them a pillow in their crib?

Depends on the child. Definitely by age two he should be ready for one. Up until then it is safer to give him a soft folded blanket to lay his head on.

We always gave our girls the small travel pillows once they were old enough to sit/stand up on their own. If they're able to move that well, they should be just fine.

it really depends on the sleeping habits of your child. we did a small travel pillow at about 2 1/2 when she started staying more in one place through out the night and was a back sleeper. if she was a stomach sleeper we would not have put it in there. we also started with naps and then she started asking for it at night. a year seems way to young for me...

Has he asked for one? My son is 27 months and loves the pillows on our bed and the sheets that go over him, but in his toddler bed (he just moved into it about a month ago), he just has his blanket. Sometimes it is on him, sometimes he is on it. As for a pillow he is fine without it. He did put the pillow from his little couch in there one night, but he didn't stay on it and hasn't asked again. I am waiting till he asks for one. I have heard that Ikea has toddler pillows, but I think that 1 is still a bit young.

it depends on the child. our one year is all over his crib at night, so i know there is no way the a pillow would be benificial for him.

My pediatrician has always said that at one year old they can have a pillow and blanket in the crib. Children by then have the control to move around if the blanket or pillow is blocking their face or nose. If you are concerned about it, call and ask your pediatrician what they would recommend.

Yep I agree. Nothing belongs in the crib-no pillow, no bumper, etc. Wait till baby is out of the crib. They are used to sleeping without a pillow. My 2 year old just moved to a big girl bed and she doesn't want anything to do with her pillow because she's so used to sleeping without one.

My son part time co sleeps with me and loves to sleep on my pillow. Often that's the only way he will sleep. In his crib is I put the pillow under the sheets. As long as he can move around, it's fine. He also sleeps with a blanket that he can't live with out and he's only nine months.
