Pediatrician with a Flexible Vaccination Schedule in SF

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a Pediatrician in San Francisco that was a little flexible with the vaccination schedule. I am looking to have my child vaccinated, but he will not be in day care so I would like to have the option to stagger the vaccinations a little bit or start at 2 months rather than birth. Thank you for your recommendations!

Hi! We *LOVE* our pediatrician, Dr. Michael Treece at St. Luke's Pediatrics in the Mission. We have delayed and selectively vaccinated and he has never batted an eye at our choices. He is extremely supportive, very well informed, and our son absolutely adores him, to the point of throwing a fit when he has to LEAVE Dr. Mike's office--even after a shot!

I take all three of my boys to Dr Rachel Malina at Bay Area Pediatrics in Daly City. Its right by Seton on Southgate so its easy to get to from SF. She is very non-judgemental and supportive with my concerns of all the shots. She told me which ones that she felt were the most important. And is totally okay with staggering or omitting shots. I have found that its a great practice and like all of the doctors there. Hope that helps.

Hi C.,

My experience has been that you can just tell the Dr. you want to hold off on giving vaccinations. You can also choose to not get certain shots if you don't want to, either. Most Dr.s will of course highly recommend the vaccinations, but you don't have to do anything you don't want to do. Don't feel pressured if you can help it! I've been going to Pacific Pediatrics Medical Group... have seen primarily Dr. Kelly and Dr. Rostek. I've chosen to not get certain shots (against their recs), but it's your choice when it comes down to it.
Good luck!

I wish I had one to recommend. You are so smart to delay the vaccinations. The preservatives alone that these immunizations come in are very h*** o* a little one's system. In Europe, they wait much longer to give these shots. Giving your little one yogurt/kefir (look for the ones sweetened with agave nectar and not sugar) will also help her intestinal tract rid itself of harmful substances. Good luck! You are going to be a great mom.

All parents in the USA have the right to decide when and what to put into their child's body. It is a federal LAW that an non-vaccinated/immunized child be allowed into daycares and schools, even if s/he is not vaccinated/immunized. Merely state your preference and then sign a document stating your preference.

I delayed vaccination/immunizations for my child until she was 10 yrs old. During these ten years my child was enrolled in playgroups, daycare settings and schools. At most of these places I have had to educate many folks about the law, but it was effort well-spent. My child has had wonderful experiences.

Delaying vaccinations, combined with extended breastfeeding gave my contributed to her having excellent health during her formative years. It always amazed me how she could attend daycare with so many chronically sick children, kids with a green snotty nose for months at a time, kids on antibiotics for weeks, and be so untouched by all the bugs!

I can count on two hands the green snotty noses my child had in her first 10 years of life. And only one ear infection in ten years. For my child, withholding the vaccinations was the right thing to do. Her immune system was always in top notch condition; whatever Mother Nature threw at her she processed it and shook it off with ease. I have rarely had to miss work for a sick kid.

Dr. Michael Treece at St. Luke's has been our Pediatrician for years.
Dr. Michael Treece is extremely knowledgeable in his trade, PLUS he's able to communicate effectivly and pleasantly to both his patients and their parents. Dr. Michael Treece did not agree with my decision to delay my child's vaccinations, but he respected my right to parent my child as I saw fit. Dr. Treece has always answered my questions and my child's questions thoroughly. He does not talk down to either of us. On top of all of this, Dr. Treece is a very pleasant and interesting person. We look forward to our visits with him and we are enriched by knowing him.

Hi, Congratulations on your pregnancy! We love our pediatrician Nanci Tucker at Stonestown Medical Group ###-###-####. She's very down to earth and does not stress us out. ;) You'd have to call about the details of timing vaccinations. I know that my daughter (who is 5 months) received 4 shots and an oral vaccine at 2 months, 4 months and will again at 6 months. She also got her first Hepatitis shot at birth.
