We're looking for a pediatrician in the Knoxville area that is open to selective and delayed vaccinations. Our current ped. will not see our son (6 months) unless he receives all shots on schedule. He has rec'd two rounds already. However, we do not want him to receive any more right now. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any pediatricians that will not give us a hard time in Knoxville?! **I am not asking for information/advice on why we SHOULD vaccinate our son at this time. Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

I love my Pediatric doctor's office. I go to Knoxville Pediatric Associates. I really think they would be open to discuss vaccine options with you. Not only that but they can get you in right away if your child becomes sick and they even have Saturday and Sunday hours if your problem can't wait until monday. We have seen all of the doctors there and I like them all. Good luck here is there number ###-###-####.

Hi K.,
I don't know exactly how our pediatrician (Dr. Neil Feld) feels about delaying vaccinations because my son gets his on schedule. But, Dr. Feld is personable and willing to discuss any concerns you have. My husband and I met with him one evening before our son was born just to get to know him a bit and ask him any questions we had. Dr. Feld had given a talk at a "getting ready for your baby" type class at St. Marys - he talked about choosing a pediatrician who is right for you and about how you should interview the person so you feel comfortable. I am sure he would be willing to meet with you and discuss your concerns! He is at Tots and Teens Pediatrics - one office near St. Marys and the other near St. Marys North off of Emory Road.

WELL MOST WILL NOT...BUT IF YOU HAVE RELGIOUS REASONS THEY HAVE TO RESPECT THAT. ALSO IF YOUR CHILD IS SICK GO TO FAMILY CARE PHYSICIANS ON MIDDLEBROOK BEFORE YOU HIT WEISGARBER. THEY ARE SUPER FRIENDLY AND CONVIENT WHEN I CAN'T GET INTO KPA. oH ONE MORE THING I WOULD TRY CALLING CHILDRENS HOSPITAL...THEY MIGHT HAVE A DOCTOR'S NAME. GOOD LUCK. N.

PS FAMILY CARE IS A WALKIN/DOCTORS OFFICE

Dr. Lisa Padgett at KPA on Weisgarber does not pressure you to have those done. She will let you determine whether or not you want your child to have vaccinations. Especially if your child stays at home. She, of course, recommends them. I asked her a couple of years ago about it when Autism Speaks posted information on vaccinations being linked to Autism. She does not agree that there is a link. She has children of her own, both young, and said she would not stop or delay their vaccinations based on the research that has been done. There is not enough proof. She is a very sweet doctor and I recommend her all the time. I'm sure this other pediatrician has reasons to not accept patients unless they are vaccinated. Possibly a lawsuit from parents of a child that contracted a disease and had not received a vaccination. Both of my children have received their vaccinations on schedule and are very healthy. One of my sister-in-laws has delayed most of the vaccines for her two children since she is a stay-at-home mom and home schools her children and both of her children are very healthy as well. I think it is a personal decision. Good look finding a good pediatrician. Sounds like you need to find another one. KH

K.,

I know you said Knoxville but I live in Seymour and take my kids to Kidschoice pediatrics to Dr. Jill Newsome. She tells you the risks of not getting vaccine but believes it up to the parents to make decisions for their kids. I have my own kids on a delayed schedule and have skipped some like the Hep A vaccine.

I would definately get a different ped!!! A pediatrician should not tell parents what they have to do and be open to discussing concerns. Autism is scary!!!! As parents we have to make decisions that could impact them majorly.

Good Luck and stick to your beliefs!!
