Pediatrician/DAN Doctors and Advice About Alternative Vaccine Schedule

I tread very lightly putting this request out there, but will do so anyway. I am currently pregnant, and wanting to take every precaution with this 2nd child to avoid any potential harm that the current vaccine schedule may have on our children (relative to learning disabilities/spectrum disorders etc.)

I currently do NOT have a child on the spectrum; however, I do have a child that had some gross motor delay at 13 months and whom walked very late, and subsequently, has some language delay; but somehow with intervention of speech therapy, preverbal programs, and cranieotherapy, he is doing so well, I question even whether there is an issue anymore. So, while I will never be able to suggest even what may have caused his issues (trauma at birth) or too much toxicity from mecury-free vaccines (that obviously have some other type of preservative in them if in fact the thimerosal was taken out).

I know this issue is quite controversial so I think its prudent for me to say, I firmly believe that vaccines are very necessary and I still wish to vaccinate my child; however, I wish to do on different schedule. When I was a child I didn't receive my first vaccine till 4 years old....and now our kids are given up to 20 some odd shots by the age of 2.

I just finished reading an awesome article on this very topic and it prompted to write in to you mom's. You can read the article yourself at http://www.naturalnews.com/022574.html

So, this brings me to my questions,

Can you use a DAN doctor to administer an abbrievated vaccine schedule?
Will a ordinary pedi still honor care over your child if you elect to see a DAN for shots?
Are there pedi's out there that will honor an abbrievated schedule as well?

Your feedback/advice and comments are most appreciated.

Hello Kelly
I have to dig around for the articles I've read on spreading out vaccinations but I'll get them to you. I will say that I believe you can speak to an allergist/immunologist about this topic...that same doctor might be able to administer the vaxes, too.
Also, there are doctors that aren't necessarily DAN doctors out there that do spread out vaccines or for some don't vaccinate at all. Like I said, let me dig around a little and I'll get back to you.
I am so very happy for you and your family...good thoughts for your new little one...he or she will be blessed to be part of your beautiful family.
Well wishes,
A.L.

K.- I agree...this is a very HOT topic. I have a 3 year old who I fully vaccinated and a 9 month old that I have chosen not to vaccinate at all based upon a ton of research that I have done on the whole vaccination process.

I just read a great book that I think is pretty balanced on this topic. It is called Childhood Vaccinations by Lauren Feder. She is an MD that has gone a little more Holistic in her practice. She does responsible/selective vaccinations in her practice, but she did not vaccinate her own children.

I have serious health problems, and hired a Body Ecologist to help me with my diet, etc. Her advice on vaccinations was not to do it at all (she works with my pediatrician in helping autistic children), but if you want to do it selectively, not to begin until the child is at least 2 years of age, which gives their immune system a chance to form and become strong. She also said that you should never give a child a vaccine when their immune system is compromised or taxed...i.e. when they are ill.

When I was a child, I had about 8 vaccines given to me. Now, there are about 30+. Since being diagnosed with CMT, I have really tried to reflect on my life and what might have happened over the last 38 years to trigger my disease. I feel strongly that the vaccinations and the heavy doses of antibiotics were a major issue in damaging my DNA. That is why I have decided to forgo them for my daughter, Hope.

I do have a pediatrician at Baylor Grapevine that supports my decision 100%, so if you need someone, let me know. He could also help you with selective vaccinations.

Good Luck!

Good luck with your decision and your pregnancy.
My regular pedi supports my alternate vaccination decision(although not all do but many are coming around) and Dr. Rao in Plano offers an alternate schedule if you are looking. He is a DAN doctor. There is another in Grapevine that is very good too, I think his info is listed on www.camsvoice.com under links. This is my nephew's autism awareness site. It has great book links too on the topic of immunizations.
Also if you are looking to remove toxins from your home as well visit www.LiveTotalWellness.com/texas to request info on safer alternatives.

K., What is a DAn doctor? There is a pediatrician in Frisco, Texas who follows a different vaccination schedule than the norm. Her name is Dr. Deborah Bain, and her # is ###-###-####. I have seen her a couple of times. I like her vaccination policy but prefer my previous pediatrician. Good luck.
