I am due to have a baby in 5 days.. to all of those women who have recently had babies, how long did your dr allow you to go overdue?
aand are there any methods to bring on labor that worked for you.

HI L., I just had a baby on Dec 5th, 2006 and i was within a week of my due date and miserable and lots of braxton hicks, i kept bugging my ob to induce me and instead he stripped my membranes which was a bit uncomfortable but the next day, my daughter came into this world

My son was born a week late, but the doctors were willing to let me go up to 14 days after my due date. (On average, firstborn babies are between three and 10 days late.) I eventually went into labor myself, and didn't have to be induced, thankfully. I would recommend exercise - I tried a lot of other "home remedies" and didn't find anything except exercise to work. Good luck!

I was a week late with my first one. I started dilating about 3 weeks before my due date, but it didn't help going into labor! The week I was due and then the day before she was born my doctor stripped my membranes. It was a little uncomfortable, but not too bad. It really helped a lot. They did that with my second child as well since I was dilated to 4 and having no contractions. I was always told that walking was good to bring on labor as well. I did a lot of walking. Even when I went into the hospital they had me walk to try and have more regular contractions, it worked! Good luck to you and Congrats on the baby!

My Doctor told me that they were going to let me go up to 2 weeks past my due date. I went in for a check up 1 week after my due date and told them that I couldn't wait it was getting uncomfortable and they scheduled me for induction like 4 or 5 days after. Luckily I went on my own 2 days later.
Good luck- I know how it feels to be right there at the end, but for it to drag on.
Be a little persistant with your Dr.- my Dr. was overbooked for inductions and wasn't available until I would be 3 weeks over due. I wasn't willing to take that for an answer. So I let then know that. Just the thought of waiting that much longer made me want to cry.

Congrats on the pregnancy. I would try to avoid being induced. The main reason is that it doesn't always work, and then you would end up with a c-section. And having a c-section has implications for all future pregnancies...
Also, I have heard stories where the EDD was off and the baby had to stay in NICU because the lungs weren't developed enough - baby was actually born premature.

L.,
I was due on the 14th of April and did not have my daughter until the 21st. My doctor scheduled me to be induced for 7 days after my due date (the 21st). I was suppose to get to the hospital at 7:00am on the 21st and actually went into labor naturally at 4:00am and got to the hospital at 6:00. I guess my daughter just needed to hear that they were coming in after her to give her the nudge to come out on her own. Two years later she can be just as stubborn if she wants :) On my due date I started trying natural ways to enduce labor such as, driving over dirt roads, eating spicey food, eating pineapple, and everal other things. I tried most of them several times...not sure any of them are what caused her to make her grand appearance, but I'm just glad she decided to do it on her own.
Good luck to you!!! It's a wonderful experience!

I was not induced until 2 weeks after my due date. They made me go in bi-weekly to check fluids and activity for the two weeks prior to induction. I didn't think that it was bad at all - I was only in active labor for two hours before delivering and they did give me the epidural as well. The hospital that I stayed at had the policy of waiting two weeks before inducing.
