Has anyone had to take their child to a pediatric orthopedic surgeon? My son had a failed trigger thumb surgery, and now for our second round, we would like a specialist. Anyone ever dealt with trigger thumb in a child?

What can I do next?

Dr Jeffrey Kanel on Samaritan Drive is a Pediatric Orthopedic specialist. He could no doubt give ref'ls if he's full or can't get you in fast enough. You might also ask him about any Hand Orthop specialist in the area.

Where do you live? I know of a wonderful hand surgeon, Doctor Ben Maser at Palo Alto Medical Clinic in Palo Alto, not necessarily pediatric. But can get great referrals for you. Great Orthopedic docs there as well.

I do not know where you live but if you live in the Bay area, San Francisco, I would suggest that you go to Childrens Hospital in Oakland and See Dr. Hoffinger. He has been known to operate on some of the most difficult cases around the country. He is very good and has a wonderful way with the children

I am not sure where the failed surgery took place, but Shriners Hospital has some of the best ortho surgeons.

Best wishes to you and your family.

After a lot of research when my son needed to see one, we also went with Dr. Hoffinger. I really liked him.

Dear L.,
Dr. Rinsky is pediatric orthopedic surgeon at Stanford. He did a very successful surgery on my daughter's toes several years ago. We recently saw him on another matter that will not need surgery, so I know he is still alive and well and working at Stanford. Good luck. L.

Hi L.,
I went to Stanford with a woman who later became a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. She practices in Los Gatos and her name is Dr Deborah Popejoy. Her phone number is ###-###-####. She left a big practice last year and is out on her own and is allowed to spend more time with her patients. She also has two girls of her own, ages 3 and 5, I think. I am also a local physical therapist practicing in Santa Cruz, so feel free to contact me with questions or if I can be any help!
Regards, Jenny Murphy

Hi L.,

My son had some knee problems and we found an awesome orthopedic surgeon in San Ramon. Her name is Aenor Sawyer and she works out of the San Ramon Regional hospital group. ###-###-####
She treated my son's knee problem for 2 years and with her expertise, we avoided surgery. Go see her!

Hi L.,

I recommend Dr. Scott Hoffinger at Oakland Children's Hospital. He treated my daughter for possible hip dysplasia (no surgery necessary). We were very happy with him. He is also known for his treatment/surgery of the dwarf child on the Little People, Big World reality show. Good luck, A.

Children's Hospital Oakland, Dr. Hoffinger, in particular is great. I did billing for their group and their patients' parents love them all. We recieved so many compliments and thank you's along with their kids' stories, it was incredible. A lot of parents went outside of their insurance network just to ensure that they were getting the best doctors.

My daughter had a fractured wrist and we used Dr. Gregory Horner. I beleive he has an office in San Ramon, Livermore, and Tracy. I don't know that he specializes in pediatrics but I know that he specializes in hands and was extremely good with my daughter who is 6 years old.

If you are in SF, we have seen both Dr. Delgado and Dr. Diab at UCSF. My daughter had to have knee surgery and back surgery (not at the same time!) and I loved both doctors.

I'm not sure where you are, but my daughter just recently "gained" an pediatric orthopedic surgeon due to a fractured leg. Her name is Dr. Ratnarathorn (yes, my daughter actually said the name correctly the very first time, and she's 3 LOL) and she's at Valley Children's Hospital in Madera. We got a referral from our pediatrician - not sure if that's required to see her.

Good luck!

Hello L.,
I took my daughter to an excellent pediatric ortho surgeon, for a finger fracture (she was 5), at UCSF.(San Francisco) He came highly recommended by fellow physicians, and the surgery/procedure was a success--with minimal distress for my daughter, as well. His name is Dr. Mohammad Diab. He has quite a busy practice, but is very personable and sensitive to caring for children. I wish you the very best outcome for your child's condition.
